Missing the midwest something fierce today
When the US govt terminated the National Nature Asst, @phillevin.bsky.social + the author team were determined not to let that stop them.
They re-organized, set up an advisory committee, found fundingβ¦and now the brand new Nature Record is open for public comment. ππ³ππ²
Check it out (link below)!
Hi! Do you think Tucker Carlson βhas a pointβ? Do think Platner platforming Holocaust deniers isnβt really a big deal? Do you think the βEpstein classβ is short for βgood w/ $$β? Well, my pal @kathrynajoyce.bsky.social and I wrote an article just for you! inthesetimes.com/article/form...
I miss you too bub β€οΈ

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. Sheβs married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
Theyβve already sent her to Louisiana.
Photographer Junn Bollmann was arrested in LA on Friday after being indicted on the same civil rights charges as journalists @donlemonofficial.bsky.social and @bygeorgiafort.bsky.social for covering January protests at a MN church.
Federal agents also seized his devices:

Reform? In this economy?
and half of New York City
Right, more of the "kiss Josh Hawley's ass and alienate the entire LGBTQIA+ wing of the Teamsters" kind
As principled as a limp noodle
booooooo
The guy he's trying to fight is Sean O'Brien, president of the Teamsters, at a PRO Act hearing a couple years back. It would have been pretty funny to see O'Brien kick Mullin's ass on the committee floor lmao
O'Brien's now widely understood to be a Trump supporter and right-leaning reactionary
Please tell me they're gonna retcon Wash's death
PLEASE
MARISA WHAT
Bye-bye
Someone hire me lolsob
Working on more teaching applications and went in search of a COVID-era syllabus; found a few classroom lecture recordings from that era of teaching fully remoteβ¦not to toot my own horn too heavily but man am I good at this
Just really solid classroom presence, even in a virtual setting
βNo front-page stories in NYT, WSJ, WaPo. No mention on NBC and CBS Sunday Shows. No stand alone segments on Evening News shows. A death count on par with the OKC bombing is relegated to the back page.β www.columnblog.com/p/corporate-...
A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.
Who are these jailers, I just wanna talk
My tooth infection bored a hole through my jaw and turned my face into a swollen pumpkin. I have never experienced pain like that in my life
Couldnβt eat, speak, or sleep, cried for weeks until I got the cash together to get it pulled
Horrendous, HORRENDOUS experience
This poor man, jesus christ
At the barest minimum
Literally a single visit to a dentist to pull the tooth and a round or two of strong antibiotics could have prevented this, and these motherfuckers let him suffer in a prison cell until he DIED
Evil shit
Truly the only way forward is to cast these devils out of society the second they are unmasked
These monsters are incompatible with a peaceful existence, and should know no peace themselves for the rest of their miserable lives, I truly mean that
Having suffered the pain of a tooth infection I can unequivocally say that this man died in absolute agony. The type of nerve pain that will have you screaming and wondering quite rightly if youβve gone insane
This man was tortured through neglect, and everyone involved is an irredeemable monster
Not to mention that chatbots, when asked for articles on a topic, just throw together a likely string of words to approximate a citation. Thereβs no guarantee itβs a citation for a real article, as our students have discovered many times over.
Additionally: Human beings built the databases that AI now throws a shitload of slop into
Human-fucking-beings made it possible for a thing to exist that AI now shreds
A monumental achievement in digitizing an absolutely insane amount of knowledge was done byβyou guessed itβhuman beings
The amount of things that AI actually helps with is honestly pretty low, and of those things, if youβre not QCing results and staying vigilant about checking the quality of the research, then itβs actually making *more* work for you
Besides, why outsource your own intelligence to a machine?
