A figure showing the evolution of radiotherapy for prostate cancer and gastrointestinal effects.
Advances in the planning and delivery of radiation treatments have come from efforts to simultaneously reduce negative effects in normal tissues and enhance tumor control (seen in figure). Learn more: nej.md/4cjpcxk

Hey I did a fun thing with @warren.senate.gov about breaking up giant healthcare conglomerates

Three panels showing a bench on a small hill in London on a grey drizzly day. A man in a fedora carrying a suitcase arrives, then he is joined by a woman carrying an umbrella and a man in dark glasses reading a newspaper. They all look shifty and hurriedly converse: "Good." "Very." "Agreed." Then they all walk off down the hill. Caption: Every month, the Espionage Book Club discuss a classic work of spy fiction at a clandestine meeting. To minimise the risk of exposure, infiltration or surveillance by hostile agents, conversation is restricted to the essentials.
My cartoon for this weekβs @theguardian.com books.
You probably quoted Solzhenitsyn or something and I filled in a scotoma
I WAS thinking both.
ICF [K] ~ ECF [Na]
ICF [Na] ~ ECF [K]
Volume ICF = 2x ECF
Mass even more so as K heavier 39.
But I was ignoring our solid bits, which apparently have Na >> K, and probably flip the moles balance but not mass.
Makes me think of the surprising fact (for people used to looking at chem-sevens) that there is more potassium in the body than sodium
Bout time, good work
Radiation oncology is cool
Why did I think you immigrated from an SSR in the early to mid 90s?!?
one of the most impactful classes i ever took in undergrad was a course called Instrumental Analysis which was, essentially, Electrical Engineering for Chemists. i donβt remember the actual devices that we studied but i came with a lifelong appreciation for understanding the limitations of machines
It never ceases to amaze me how a piece of software as profoundly shit as Microsoft Teams continues to be used by organisations worldwide
Mom, come pick me up, the best lack all conviction and the worst are full of passionate intensity.
I'm sorry, if you're going to make a big show about how you've got a Department of WAR helmed by a Secretary of WAR and staffed by WARfighters, it's totally inane to then claim that your massive bombing of a foreign country constitutes something other than a war.

Iβm confused. This seems like a negative trial.
The primary outcome 95% CI straddles 1 comfortably. The Bayesian language is less familiar, but doesnβt it mean (almost) the same as p = 0.26?
And a few days later, curves totally same.
Besides, if my vanc is gonna fail, Iβd rather know earlier?
In contrast to patients with hyperdosteronism-mediated hypertension, MRAs do not have a significant BP effect in patients with volume-expanded HF.

Inpatient diuresis thoughts
Spironolactone is not only part of GDMT, and not only a K-spring diuretic, but also an H-sparing diuretic.
Start it up front when you anticipate >10-15 pound loop diuresis to prevent not only constant potassium chasing, but also metabolic alkalosis.

This recent RCT of an "AI stethoscope" claims the technology "shows promise" for diagnosing cardiovascular conditions.
It does not.
It is a textbook example of the risks of conducting unprincipled 'per protocol analyses'. Once again, peer review at a major medical journal has failed.

Well done. Fair and objective. Also (unsurprisingly) good modeling of how to actually teach about health/disease and support your claims.
Our former med student, Casey Means, will finally have her nomination hearing for US Surgeon General this week. Listen to why she is a poor pick for this important role, using a deep dive into her 2024 book Good Energy as a window into her knowledge, priorities, & perspective.
