Really loved The Scald Crow by Grace Daly. Inspired by Irish folklore, Brigid, a young woman suffering from chronic pain, returns to her childhood home in St. Charles after her mother passes. While the house appears to be haunted, the horror is the American healthcare system for sure.

Trade paperbacks cost only 30c more to make and are priced $18-20 now, where mass market paperbacks didn't sell at $12. So... there's your answer. It's about margins.
