Getting to the point of being able to drop something in the world and have it Just Work is pretty magical, to me, even when it's something as simple as a button to open a specific door ^_^
Enemy footstep and sounds could work, too. I know in other games I'll hear noises and go 'ah, I can hear one of those tough bastards nearby, I need to be prepared'
I've been following a few tutorials just to wrap my head around GameMaker, then I'm looking at trying to do some basic clones of other games just for practice. I got big ideas too, and the more I learn the more I know how far I've got to go!
Indie game marketing is rough. You look at all the advice and it's "Basically you want to become a spammer. Inconvenience small streamers as much as as you can. Be a downtick in the quality of life of hundreds. This has 8% odds of upping your wishlists"
Outer Wilds is now on sale on Steam with its biggest discount yet.
To those who've explored the stars, when did the loop click for you?

Seeing a lot of Caves of Qud chatter on the TL, so itβs the perfect time to re-share what is probably the best piece of writing Iβve ever done.
My essay deconstructing CoQβs water ritual:
Oh, that's a nice touch!
Neat! Is this 2d or 3d? How'd you do the shadows for the coins?
Dudes will look at a sword like this and say hell yeah
Some times it's like that! I hope you learned a lot working on it!
Nice! I've been poking at Gamemaker on and off for a bit, and once I understand things better I'd like to check out Godot ^_^
Which engine are you planning on checking out? ^_^
There was an interesting interview with a bunch of former folks on Game Informer

Depending on what program you're using and what you want to do, there's probably a few tutorials out there to get you started, and there are Discord communities that can help when your code doesn't work ^_^
Good luck, have fun! If you're like me and don't have any programming experience a lot of advice says you shouldn't work on your dream project right away, and do lots of little things to learn first. I've certainly learned a lot about what I don't know already!
Panel 2: Shen looks relieved, his hands held together in front of him. He sighs, saying "phew!", and then says "It's HARD to get your attention you know."
Panel 3: Shen throws his arms up as a printer in front of him outputs comics, which fly whimsically around him. He smiles excitedly at says "Have you ever wanted a high quality print of my comics??? Well NOW... You CAN!! have one. WITH SHEN COMIX P.O.D. (Print on Demand)"
Panel 4: Shen is standing against a backdrop of various comics of his, including the fighting game archetypes on, the old OC one, and the chess movement one. He has his back mostly to you, with his arms behind his back, but turns his head slightly towards you and says "Currently there are 25 of my personal recent faves, but I'll add more as they come out! Feel free to reply with any requests too!"
Panel 5: Shen, turns around as if he's about to walk away, raises his hand in a backwards peace sign and says "TOPA DOT TO SLASH SHEN. I hope you check it out! And thanks for letting me advertise, either way!"

Fondly remembering Landstalker's platforming
I was an absolute sicko for Landstalker as a kid, my mind was blown by the idea of hiding paths behind other scenery. It really activated my "explore for secrets" neurons, which I still adore today
Oh, that's cool!
I feel like if you've put in that much effort you've earned it :p

Zelda Outlands is a popular romhack of the original NES game. What makes it unique is that its sort of Metroidvania-ish in design that you don't complete levels in "Zelda order." You unlock items and can complete more of different levels.

I haven't played it, but isn't Back 4 Blood made by the team from L4D?
The "whup whup whup" when they spin fast is very satisfying

so I don't try to access something out of bounds. I'm thinking I'll check to see if the last entry that array_ copy is looking for actually exists, and if not, check each position from array_copy's start point until I find the end, and run array_copy up to that point. 3/3
Next up is to make the menu change between 'pages' with up/ down buttons. I'm storing the data for the stickers as structs in an array, so I should be able to use array_delete and array_copy to change what buttons are displayed. I just need to figure out how to handle edge cases 2/
I've been making a bumper sticker "paper doll" type program in gamemaker as a coding learning project, and I'm pretty happy with my progress so far. I've got it set up with a menu that creates buttons, that then create stickers you can drag and drop. 1/
