Quick question does anyone know how to restore virtue to a decaying society
Iβve seen enough. Not about the election. Just generally.
Book banners are trying to create a world in which no one is able to imagine living lives different from their own
We need NYC-based authors/writers to use their skills to share the importance of public libraries in the 21st century. If this is you, write things and post them to all of your networks.
Also sign a letter to the City Council: actionnetwork.org/letters/city...
It's you I like,
It's not the things you wear,
It's not the way you do your hair
But it's you I like
The way you are right now,
The way down deep inside you
Not the things that hide you,
Not your toys
They're just beside you.
But it's you I like
I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves. Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone. That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins. If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after. Sahar Delijani, Iranian author
I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own governmentβs repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.
I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.
Sahar Delijani said it best:
Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads: The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same... - Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
A screenshot of Rachel Dratch from SNL. She's a white woman with short dark hair and blue eyes, and she's making an awkward expression that implies, "Sorry I have to tell you this and ruin your good time. But also I'm kind of not sorry about it." I've added a subtitle that reads, "That's AI."
an updated debbie downer sketch but it's friends showing her funny videos and she has to respond like this to every single one like this:
times like these, I gotta appreciate the tiny bits of magic
My painting TIDAL WETLANDS
Never heard of this law before right this second but holy fuck if it does not 100% check out
It's awful and I'm so sorry
Horse girls, this is our year to fly. Last year we worked on shedding the skin that no longer served us. Now we let that fire always burning inside us blaze bonfire bright. Mount up. Weβve got shit to do on this planet.
today is 02-26-2026, and I don't know, that feels pretty cool
I know itβs difficult right now, but I insist that you seek and enjoy beautiful things, even if it seems frivolous or irresponsible in the face of overwhelming horror. I want you to feed yourself artistically, spiritually, and literally, because you canβt Do The Work when youβre starving.
The great lie of patriarchy is that its purpose is to protect women and children, when in reality its to preserve women and children as belongings of the powerful men, to do with as they please.
It seems all Kansas-issued trans drivers' licenses are invalid, effective tomorrow
It is now illegal for trans people to drive a car until they surrender their license at a DMV (that most will need to drive to) and have it reissued with the wrong gender marker
This was never about woman's sports
Yes mood!!
Picking up your phone is like walking into a room and forgetting why you went in there, but you stand in that room for an hour.
Hullo Kelly!
Yes I'm donating two copies to the school
three copies of the marvelous book THE GIRL WHO DRANKT HE MOON, showing a young girl in a dress in attitude of wonder and surrender, a large full moon behind her, paper birds flying about
When you're going through your bookshelves and discover you have three copies of THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON by @kellybarnhill.bsky.social
I'm the worst at remembering the data. The longest part of that article for me was re-researching everything so I could provide links. I wish I'd stored it all somewhere!
This I believe! Is there an article or study about it do you know? I'd love to see the evidence laid out.
I have no direct evidence that that's why they're being banned, but it's hard not to make that conclusion when the evidence clearly shows that sex education and openness about rape and SA prevent and heal. I know a lot of people are just afraid of uncomfortable topics, but I want to scream sometimes
Love you, Charlie Jane π
so well said, thank you
I'm constantly trying (/failing) to get this point across.
If you're a trained expert in a field, then it may be worthwhile to question the scientific consensus of your peers.
If you're not, the scientific consensus is absolutely the best you can do and it's arbitrary foolishness to disregard it.
