The Goat's Horns with Blue painting features a goat's horn arranged in a spiral shape, acting as a natural frame for a patch of blue sky. The work is a pastel on paper, showcasing O'Keeffe's skill in blending colors to create soft textures and distinct materiality. Executed in 1945, this painting is part of her series exploring desert bones and natural forms, mirroring her abstracted pelvis paintings.

Book cover of "Designing Data-Intensive Applications, 2nd edition". It has a similar wild boar on the cover as the first edition, but it uses O'Reilly's new cover design, and the boar is now slightly colourised.
The second edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications, by myself and @chris.blue, is finished and sent off to the printers! Ebooks should be available in the next week, and print books in 3โ4 weeks. Sigh of relief. ๐

The 10-meter-tall statue was created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura and erected in 1955 to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing on August 9, 1945. Its design is highly symbolic: the right hand points to the threat of nuclear weapons, while the extended left hand symbolizes eternal peace. The statue's closed eyes are in prayer for the victims of war. A black vault at the statue's foot holds the names of the atomic bomb victims.

street art mural in Reykjavik, Iceland, created by English artist D*Face as part of the Wall Poetry project. The artwork was inspired by the 13th-century Icelandic saga Laxdรฆla Saga. The monster depicted is an Icelandic undead creature called a draugur, which sucks the will from its victims, rather than a vampire. The text at the bottom is an Icelandic quote from the saga, which translates to "I loved those the most who were the worst".

scenario 2) a colder scenario could leave isolated, iceโcapped islands at higher latitudes where temperate species persist as refuges, creating pockets of biodiversity that preserve species lost elsewhere and evolving uniquely adapted flora and fauna in these sheltered islands.
scenario 1) Earth has warmed enough that shallow seas blanket much of the continents, creating a warmโworld megadiversity populated with tropicalโlike marine life, plankton blooms, and fastโgrowing coral that thrive under higher temperatures.
