I think that it is worse than that even… this isn’t just a case of backing a bad candidate. This is a decades long campaign to corrupt the democratic process and misinform the public. Whatever protections that were in place do not just need to be reinstated, they need to overhauled and reinforced.

My concern with this data is that it may ignore the difference between high income and high wealth individuals. Someone with £100m in assets might have very little taxable income yet they can live off a combination of debt secured against assets and dividends. How has their asset/tax share changed?

One of the few little joys that I have had over the last few months has been to watch the marketing campaign for Marvel’s Thunderbolts movie roll out. With the exception of DP&W, I’d started to feel that the MCU had forgotten how to tell interesting stories. This looks like a delight. #movies

I think that we have to assume that it is a dictatorship, because that is definitely their intention, and we don’t know yet whether the voices of freedom, reason and democracy will have adequate strength remaining at the end of this term to prevent this from becoming official.

Literally anyone would be an improvement right now.

I’ve always had a philosophy that grounded optimism is critical to a healthy mind. At any conventional time, if you don’t believe that there is even the slightest chance of success, you wouldn’t try anything and so everything becomes impossible.

We need to rediscover that thing that gives us hope.

A couple of years ago, I wrote a story about the world order facing environmental and economic collapse around 2050, and a realignment into many smaller blocs.

At the time it seemed that it was a timeframe that felt unsettlingly close yet still somewhat plausible…
