Thank you Hindustan Times for listing Β΄Video Cultures in Indiaβ as one of your favourite reads of the year. Thanks to The Print for publishing an excerpt from the book.
In a difficult year personally, I have deep gratitude for everyone who engaged with the book in and outside academia.

Happy to hear that the panel @jmkang.bsky.social put together got accepted at SCMS next year. We have some great panelists and I look forward to learning and listening from their work.
The Student Strike at #ConcordiaUniversity has begun!
"The students united will never be defeated!"
I'm as happy as anyone about SCMS's statement on the AMPAS staff cuts, but I can't help compare this speedy response to the lack of any statement about the genocide in Gaza, even after a petition with the largest list of signatories in the organization's history asked them to do so.
"Gaza has become a graveyard for children"
Israel has killed at least 17,400 Palestinian children since last October.

Frame 9: "Pro-Palestine Protests on University Campuses (Notes from Spring, 2024)" is now live on Cultural Critique's website. Long in the works, it seemed it might never come out at all. It reads differently and importantly 6 months late(r).

I've spoken to a number of ppl who said they did not feel comfortable using the term "genocide" until a report like this came out. Here's hoping their reservations are done now and that we can stop arguing semantics instead of trying to stop the slaughter itself.
Since everyone is introducing themselves or talking about their favourite books, I thought I will informally introduce myself through what I have read, am reading, and about to read in the past 2 months.
Thank you ππΎ
Would love to be included in this! Thanks for making this!
I created this starter pack for Film and Media Studies ppl on Bluesy, but it's not super active. Help me make it better! Who should I add? Also, consider following those already included if you haven't already.

Thanks for creating this! Can you add me to this or if this is full to another one if it exists?
Oh wow! Thanks! Appreciate it! There are so many starter packs, itβs getting a bit overwhelming to keep track!

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know Iβm a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc
Yeah this space would benefit more from some diversity. Too sanitized.
