Me on the left: "Welp. Grocery prices going up, up, up! (Probably)" overtop a graph showing a fast spike in diesel prices.
John McGrath on the right: "Hey quick Q for anyone, does food take a lot of oil to grow, package, and distribute."
Both us posting at nearly the same time.
We've never been in the same room together, but we are not the same person.

An oil shock would be a real good time for Canada to import an absolute ton of cheap EVs, but how? HOW?

Honestly the key to making good predictions isnβt being especially smart but understanding that there isnβt some kind of invisible fencing around outcomes that prevents them from departing from the familiar. A car accelerating at a cliff edge will go over the edge if it doesnβt stop or turn

As someone who routinely mocks permabullish clickbait oil forecasts, I want to be exceptionally clear:
Crude WILL go to $200/bbl, en route higher, unless traffic through the Strait resumes.
Not clickbait, but rather brutal physics and necessary economic incentives.

For the approximately ninety-trillionth time of my adult life I want someone to build something that cleanly pastes text copied from a PDF, and at this point I don't care if the AI machine is fuelled directly by newborn kittens.

"With A Little Help From My Friends" - Hozier & Lake Street Dive (LIVE on The Late Show)
YouTube video by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
"It's a good job." Colbert was how I first listened to Lake Street Dive back during the Colbert Report days, so I feel like this is part of his valedictory. www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1j1...

A picture of PEW poll on global attitude survey, saying the % who rate the morality and ethics of people in their country as good vs bad, where the US has the worst rankings and Canada the best
Americans: we live in a fallen stateβembroiled by sin, cheating, lying, and evil. You cannot trust anyone, not even those who claim to know you best
Canadians: I love my neighbors and my friends!

I don't know the details of their specific laws but basically the structure is the renting a parking space is a "commercial use" so it has to be both allowed by the relevant zoning by-laws and licensed under the relevant city rules. And, of course, the school board needs to want it (and not all do.)

(this is one of the more truly obscure disputes between the city and school board: the city refused to license TDSB's parking lot rentals except through an agreement with Green P that would let the city take a cut of the revenue)
