This is a black-and-white close-up photograph of a sturdy metal hitching ring mounted on a very old, heavily weathered wooden barn wall. The wood shows a rough, deeply cracked texture. The grain runs straight up and down like long wrinkles. You can feel how old and worn the wood is: there are splits, peeling patches, dark knots, and areas where the surface has eroded. Right in the center sits a rectangular metal mounting plate, solidly fixed to the wood with four screws — one at each corner — each with a clear star-shaped head. The metal plate itself is a bit shiny in places but also shows tarnish, scratches, and the patina of long use. Attached to the middle of this plate is a large, thick, perfectly circular metal ring. The ring dangles freely downward, smooth and solid, big enough to easily loop a lead rope or reins through. The lighting creates sharp contrast: the bright metallic hardware stands out strongly against the dark, textured wood. The photo is tightly framed so nothing else is visible — just this simple, practical piece of farm equipment. Overall feeling: rugged, reliable, and full of character. It’s exactly the kind of ring you would find on an old stable or barn to safely tie up a horse while brushing, feeding, or saddling it.

This is a dramatic black-and-white close-up photograph of a Maine Coon cat’s face. The cat is lying down and looking straight at the camera with a calm, slightly curious expression. I had my camera set to 160ASA for this film, and for these shots I did not account nearly enough for the brightness of the sky with the limited dynamic range of the film. Thus, the sky and lake are well exposed, showing cloud detail, but the foliage of the trees is dark and almost colorless despite the fall foliage.

You are standing at the entrance of a long, empty indoor hallway captured in a stark black-and-white photograph. The perspective stretches from the foreground toward the back wall on the right. The floor is covered with rectangular tiles laid in a neat brick pattern that extends straight ahead like a path. The walls and ceiling are plain, rough concrete, giving the whole space a cold, industrial atmosphere. Along the entire right-hand wall runs a row of five heavy metal elevator doors, all closed. Large, bold white “P 1” signs on black backgrounds are mounted next to the doors, clearly marking this as Parking Level 1. Below the "P 1" signs elevator call-button panels can be seen. The ceiling has several round recessed lights casting soft, even illumination down the corridor.
