A one-inch round, brown, and prickly looking seedhead on a brown stem is topped with an irregularly shaped "snowball" that's almost two inches high. The snowball looks as if it should tip over because it's narrower on the bottom than in the middle.
A day after our weird Friday the 13th storm, snow stayed precariously perched on an echinacea seedhead. The birds wiped out the echinacea seeds long ago on all the other plants, but for some reason haven't snacked much on this one.
