I met Poison at her first tournament, Smash Camp 2024. Though we didn’t talk much then, we soon became good friends afterwards. There was a lot of myself that I saw in her. Especially comparing her early days in the melee world to mine. I jokingly call her the “young DevDogg”. When the 5th season of gaylee tournaments started in fall of 2024, I invited Poison to help TO the events with me anytime she wanted. Maybe she would be interested in running tournaments the same way I was when I started playing. I don’t collaborate with other TOs very often, but I thought we were similar enough and I trusted her enough for this to work out. In the early days, we would do everything together. I would show her how I seed, moderate, set up bracket, talk to players, advertise, and so on. Poison very quickly learned the ropes of running online events for Gaylee, only being a student-TO for a relatively brief time. By 2025, I considered us equal peers running these events together, covering for each other, helping each other out, and collaborating every bi week. Maybe at one point, there was some truth to the nickname “young DevDogg” but Poison has really grown into her own person, both in the melee scene but also just as a friend. Whether she pushes TOing further or this was just a fun thing we got to do together for a couple years, I am truly very proud of her. This is why Poison is the 2025 Waddler Of The Year.
