Damn dark mode is annoying! Didn't expect it to take so long to add in or create so much complexity in the app π

Bugs that I made in Scarlett Panda yesterday while rushing through some frontend changes:
- Broke the logout button and trapped everyone in the app
- Dark mode missed a couple of pages
- Dark mode status flickered when logging in
#buildinginpublic
Finished my freelance work quickly because I was excited to get back to another #buildinginpublic day for Scarlett Panda.
Today we're refactoring the story generating backend.
But first, cleaning up a few bugs I created yesterday while rushing through the frontend changes...
Haha! We did market our meditations at "stressed out parents" for a while. But they turned out to be a pretty annoying and quite cheap market
Last change's of the day for Scarlett Panda are live:
-LLMs bumped to GPT-4o-2024-11-20 for the "creative improvements"
-Storybooks (premium stories with 15 min generation) have more consistency
-Some clean up of the code ahead of a big refactor in the story generation logic tomorrow
Oh my god - I just realised that Scarlett Panda was still using Dall-E 3 for one of the content types π
Not only embarrassingly behind the times, but also expensive. Thankfully only ~1,000 generations in the last couple of months so not too bad.
I also spent too long trying to animate the button before giving up and making it static π
Okay adding dark mode took sooo long!
I had to research dark mode reading best practices, and checking that I didn't break any page also took a while.
So much for the long to-do list I had for today... but I'm glad dark mode is finally done.
What is this: AI children's story app
Why is it so cute: because I accepted defeat when designing it and hired someone with experience designing children's apps π
It should be even cuter before the end of the day but if you want to check it out it is at:

Change 2...
Finally a dark mode for Scarlett Panda. This took embarrassingly long to add given that we make bedtime stories π
Also embarrassingly long to align all the colours between themes.
Get ready for a big #BuildInPublic day for Scarlett Panda πΌ
I wrapped up a bunch of freelance projects to carve some time this week to fix a bunch of things on Scarlett Panda that have been neglected for toooo long.
Firstly: Black Friday offer....
Yep - cool place with really cool people. It's getting hard to keep the feed just to those cool people though :(
beep boop beep
It seems like @windsurfai.bsky.social is getting pretty popular!
That sounds like a pretty cool plot, very fantasy too - I'll give it a go!
Nice! I hadn't realised he'd been building one - I was looking for a tool today and only found a few that were "launching in a few days"
Im pretty tempted by AirPods Max. They look quite comfortable.
I hate those little squishy silicone in ear buds, but I donβt even feel AirPods tbh!
Nice, they sound pretty ideal, Iβll check them out. Thanks!
Yeah no more wondering if the algorithm is favouring shitposting or questions today π
Any fellow sci-fi book nerds on here?
Iβve just finished the 2nd Three Body Problem book (Dark Forest) and looking for a recommendation for another book before I jump into the 3rd
Yeah thankfully we could afford one on that - more just annoying to have to deal with it though
I did - someone on their team didn't tell someone else...
Happy birthday man!
Second this! Following the thread to see if there is one. Would be nice to see some opinions from agencies or companies with investment
Nice! I've been struggling to find people on here
π You remind me of someone I used to work with
I use it for testing functionality, looking at data structures etc. before putting them all into an app.
I find it more intuitive to be able to look at data pulled from an API and develop around that, than relying on logs and restarting the entire app for example
Interesting! Are they comfortable?
It gives me a headache to think about how JavaScript-focused developers build apps without something like Jupyter Notebook for Python π€―
Anyone have decent headphones that can last > 1 day or work while charging?
I've been using AirPods for a while but having to take them out to charge 3 times per day is so annoying
