there's a part of my book where a character writes a poem, and he's not a very good poet, but he's also not laughably bad, so I have to suppress both my "being an excellent poet" qualities and my "being excellent at writing terrible poetry" qualities, it's a real tough needle to thread
4,000 words today! Another chapter of the romance novel done, and the one after that begun, since I had some time left on the clock. I tend to speed up as the end of a novel approaches....
Probably finish on Tuesday. Wednesday at the latest. Maybe sooner if I get the urge to write over the weekend
1. Once I realized that humans like me made books and they werenβt just magical artifacts I wanted to make them (about age 5)
2. The Arbor House Treasury of Horror and the Supernatural

Holy shit
Hmm. I could finish the novel this weekend
But I've been trying to take weekends off
But it would only require a couple/few hours a day anyway
But it's not like I'm in a hurry
But I could finish. I could go "hurray I am finished"
But then I'd just have to start something else anyway
But
3,000 or so words this morning, and another chapter finished!
Just three more chapters to go (and an epilogue that's about half a normal chapter probably)
Solidarity!
My mom is into genealogy and so Iβm sure l has some facts but they were never part of my life so I donβt care
Tough, very tough. Another day youβd get a different answer. Gonna say Slow Gods by Claire North though. I keep thinking about it
*clucks tongue* knowing anything at all about your grandpas privilege
Maternal: dunno. Late in life he was a truck driver, maybe? But but he was a pathological liar I only met once, so
Paternal: no idea, never met. He and his wife ran an animal rescue at some point I think. (I only even met my father once that I remember, as far as that goes)
Rugged enough? :)
Yep came to say this
3300 words, and another chapter of the romance novel down!
My characters are wallowing post-breakup and doing some extremely rudimentary soul-searching. It was honestly very fun to write (unlike yesterday, which kind of sapped me emotionally). I like a good dramatic wallow
PLEASE HELP
I need to pay my rent tonight but I am 500 short because my car took a shit on me.
Please please please help me close the gap.

how many fronts is it bad to have a war on again
Only did about 2500 words on the romance novel today but it was a super intense emotional chapter so I'd say that's enough for now
I'm leaving for ICFA in a couple of weeks, and have some more travel almost immediately after that, which will disrupt the writing schedule a lot. So I'd like to finish this novel draft before then. And copyedits for The Jewel and the Comet just landed, due in a week or so. workity workity work work
hmm. okay. but only if they start to carry this long-unavailable hat from the defunct site everyone is gay. and they have to sell it year round
I have written my little reviews for things I read in January, with books I liked by @bitterkarella.bsky.social and @charliejane.bsky.social and @alexwoodroe.com and @elizabethhand.bsky.social among others!

I wrote about ten books I liked a lot in 2025 for Locus:

This... is a powerful insight.
The author in a black dress, smiling with visible dimples in her cheeks
not gonna lie. the dimples have taken me far in life
Well, whaddya wanna know
A gorgeous spinach bacon and tomato frittata
Last nightβs glorious frittata
The second book in my current series has a "Just To Recap...." page at the beginning and my editor did not object to it. It was fun to write too!
Drafting is more FUN but Iβve come to enjoy editing too. The fun of doing drugs versus the fun of doing a crossword
Oh and I walked an average of 9600 steps a day, about 130 miles total. It woulda been higher but there were some rainy days when I did my stationary bike instead
Basically this whole deal has been, uh, pretty good for me I gotta say
Kinda glad writing obituaries is no longer my gig tbh
I did better in January so I'm at 88K for the year so far; thus, overall, doing great. In March I should finish drafting this romance novel and then I'll do a few stories. I'm going to ICFA in March and probably won't write much if at all there, but big picture, I think it'll all even out nicely
I have now completed month two of my full-time writing life! (I don't really write on weekends anymore, so tomorrow doesn't count)
I wrote 38,000 words this month, a smidge under my 40K per month goal, but it's a short month and I had to do some of the not-drafting-new-material parts of the job too
