I feel like this is true for a lot of these competition games. My BF plays Heroclix, which is a relatively small community in the scheme of things, & he says it's also become a lot about lootboxes and limited releases.
I feel like this is true for a lot of these competition games. My BF plays Heroclix, which is a relatively small community in the scheme of things, & he says it's also become a lot about lootboxes and limited releases.
Can I ask for details as to why? My BF's youngest is nonbinary & he thinks they'd like the community aspect of something like MTG (he's a competitive gamer in a different thing). I don't know much about this world, though, so I'm interested in what your red flags are.
I love the people in my city π
Pretty sure I saw a condo in this building for sale recently. Interior pics looked weird as hell and not remotely homey/useful.
Hey #edusky a new example of generative AI providing repeated incorrect information just dropped. Add it to your critical thinking activities around believing AI. Wow.
HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW: β.. In our in-progress research, we discovered that AI tools didnβt reduce work, they consistently intensified it.β

I see the update is going well... π
Rearranging the furniture is such a great dopamine hit. During Covid I rearranged my living room at least twice.
Speaking from experience, it's not always 100% possible. But if your goal is to protect all neighbors, that has to include the ones out there on watch & those who choose not to put their names in chats. He shouldn't expect everyone to engage at his level of safety.
He made a lot of cogent points I appreciated, but I have huge concerns abt his take on anonymity in RR & the detail about him filming faces of RR members. Every training on observation is clear: try not to film other observers.
This isn't about "training issues." The murderer who executed Renee Good has been with ICE for 10 years, and according to DHS, the murderer who executed Alex Pretti has been there for 8 years.
These aren't "new recruits," or officers that can be "retrained." ICE can't be reformed. Abolish ICE.
If you like a good hunt, I recommend seeing what's available on FB Marketplace or at your local flea market/antique stores. I don't love using FB, but I have found some amazing MCM furniture for less than the new stuff & still beautiful.
Harebrained is the best! I have one of their STFU About Chicago shirts and get compliments every single time I wear it. π
You love to see it.

i don't really give a shit if consultants think being anti-ICE is "good messaging" or whatever when people are actively being shot, beat, gassed and jailed.
One of the reasons we have such an established, thorough record of the lies ICE, Bovino, and DHS told about alleged aggression from protesters and observers in Chicago is that a group of protesters and media orgs sued ICE. Continuously grateful for the people and lawyers who waged that fight.
what this should make clear to everyone in this country is that it does not matter who you are, there's no "it could never happen to me"
you can be a white woman who drives around with stuffed animals in her car, and they will still kill you in cold blood and call you a domestic terrorist
There is/was a CPD copter (blue with stripes) circling lower RP/Edgewater about an hour ago. I flagged it for the helicopter spotters but it definitely wasn't a DHS copter.
I wish more young people understood this v. important info. abt their future when they balk at learning things they think aren't "worth it." Nearly everyone I know who works a knowledge-economy job has changed careers/pivoted. Interests or industry change, & foundational ed helps keep you nimble
Ooo, but you can put a cookie between the top of the vertebra and the cup, so it might be genius design π
This is so spot on! There can be value in timed testing, but most instructors don't know learning design principles well enough to make informed decisions. Considering the use is paramount, esp. if you see a huge uptick in your students asking for an accommodation.
I was so pissed @ that article, b/c it slapped my whole job in the face, but you're totally right. The article could have said "so what if more students get extra time on timed exams, seeing as they're antiquated assessment tools that lots of profs don't use anymore" & spun up just as many people
π
is complicated, & if @rosehorowitch.bsky.social had consulted an instructional designer with a background in UDL they could have provided a rebuttal to all the professors whining about accommodations for antiquated testing methods.
the learning objectives tied to a course. It's called alignment & is a cornerstone of good pedagogy. Further, exams are not indicative of "real world" situations, especially objective-based & timed, blue-book-style exams where most accommodations come up. Providing equity in these conditions /2
Complicating matters is the fact that the line between having a learning or psychological disability and struggling with challenging coursework is not always clearly defined. Having ADHD or anxiety, for example, might make it difficult to focus. But focusing is a skill that the educational system is designed to test. Some professors see the current accommodations regime as propping up students who shouldnβt have perfect scores. βIf we want our grades to be meaningful, they should reflect what the student is capable of,β Steven Sloman, a cognitive-science professor at Brown, told me. βOnce theyβre past Brown and off in the real world, thatβs going to affect their performance.β
As an instructional designer working in higher ed, I have so many problems with this article, but THIS PART infuriated me. While "focusing" may be a soft skill students should improve on while in college/uni, exams should only assess whether a student has gained the knowledge necessary to fulfill /1
So if someone didn't vote for who you wanted them to, it's OK to ignore laws, round them up, & terrorize the broader community? That's fascism. & some of those people you're gleefully posting should be disappeared can't vote, so who cares about them, either, I guess? Think about what you're posting
Hundreds of my neighbors have been disappeared by ICE, so I can say with 100% certainty that joyfully asking for a group of people to be rounded up--no matter their political affiliation--is some fascist shit. Those are human beings you want illegally detained, not monsters.
