There are tons of amazing video games that have been forgotten, overlooked or which never found an audience. I'm a researcher who's going through them and finding the Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played! Website: https://greatestgames.substack.com

The first game has a serious story (along with some crazy stuff like the digital trips), but Aiden Pearce is really unlikable.

The second game makes up for its less serious story with lots of drone shenanigans.

The third one tries to be serious, but it's goofy due to the Dedsec agent mechanics

Welp. Someone is having the absolute worst day of their career right now.

Good team to do a Hunter game, though!

If you never knew you could play as Sun Wukong (the Monkey King) in a beat 'em up, Oriental Legend will give you a shot at it!

And yes, you can play as Piggsy, too!

I think San-Chang is supposed to be Tripitaka/Tang Sanzang, but the other guy and gal I'm not sure about!

You know, I was actually a fan of Watch Dogs when it came out and I thought it was unfairly maligned by people who didn't get what it was doing.

But then Watch Dogs 2 and Legion upped the ante to the point that the first game is pretty much skippable now!

Plus the hero's a bona fide sociopath.

I liked the game better than a lot of people did, but WD2 and Legion are so much better the original's hard to recommend now.

It may be a controversial opinion, but Duke II remains my favorite Duke Nukem game.

Duke 3D was fun at the time, but hasn't aged well (especially in its crass sense of humor).

The second is still a great action sidescroller worth playing today!

Hey, I appreciate your authenticity!

Plus, you have great taste in games!

I hope the sequel has a better story as they hew closer to Mario Galaxy.

The first movie had A+ animation and a C- story, but given how much worse it could have been, I'll take it.

This is fantastic news! Laserdisc games are still quite viable today and tons of fun to play through.

Given that I love the included Vib-Ribbon soundtrack, I'm always gonna pick "play with the disc"!

Awesome news about one of the greatest gamers - and game developers - of all time!

And I read the rest of the piece and realized it's a marketing stunt, so... Yeah.

They got us. Good for Woe Industries, getting some earned media like that!

The entire premise of the Adventure Game Aptitude Test is ridiculous, but when I realized halfway through the article it's a marketing stunt, I sighed and moved on with my day.

Again, I repeat - this is not a serious effort. It's a clever joke intended to promote indie dev Woe Industries.

I'm with you, and I also dislike the idea of an aptitude test being based on an extremely nonlinear adventure like Maniac Mansion (where the choice of characters affects the story).

And judging people by their clear time or ability to clear a game at all is the wrong approach for the genre anyhow!

Transistor Original Soundtrack - Paper Boats
Transistor Original Soundtrack - Paper Boats YouTube video by Supergiant Games

Transistor has incredible music throughout, so it's no surprise that once Red finally ends the game pretty much how it started, the end credits treat you to another fantastic tune.

Here's "Paper Boats" by Darren Korb, vocals by Ashley Barrett

The Classic PC Gaming Era (1977-1989) - Stormlord A muscular, sword-throwing, bearded old guy in a horned helmet rescues naked fairies in this Ghosts โ€˜n Goblins-style strategic action platformer.

Stormlord is a fascinating UK action adventure sidescroller in the style of Ghosts 'n Goblins where you play as a barely clothed bearded old warrior who rescues naked fairies.

The C64 version is the one to play!

Last Bronx is a great fighting game with an awesome animated intro!

It's kinda fallen into obscurity, but make no mistake - it's a good time with some fun 3D fighting mechanics!

This morning I dreamed that Rosewater had sold 948 copies and I was ecstatic. Then I woke up and thought โ€œaw,man.โ€

Ron Gilbert, by the early 2000s, had made so many point and click adventures he probably saw them as a form that'd grown stale.

And before he went back to point and clicks, he made some action games with adventure elements, like DeathSpank.

Well, and keep in mind we are looking back 25 years to a time when the genre itself had a pretty rigid meaning and has since evolved!

In the early 80s, RPGs were often called adventure games too, because the term was really about marketing.

Categories are always imprecise and tricky!

"What's your favorite game, Sean?"

"Well, I suppose if I had to narrow it down, I'd pick the Castlevania Rondo of Blood / Symphony of the Night duo because they represent two different eras of of peak Castlevania..."

"Um, that's two games."

"...and also there's this great Star Wars game that..."

Some of My Favorite Games LAST UPDATED: 1/12/2025

I'm amazed some of you folks can pick just 9 games you love.

Here's my list. It's not short and it's also not exhaustive.

I can't even just pick 9 from a single decade!

In my professional career, I did overcome it as I became more experienced. You kinda have to in order to lead.

In my personal life? I just decided that the only person I need to make happy is myself, and that guy doesn't care if I'm an imposter or not as long as we're having fun!

Just today I had a colleague tell me she listens to my marketing podcast every time I post it up (not the gaming one).

I had no idea. I was honestly embarrassed that someone as cool as her would listen to my show and find it useful.

But knowing she does made my day!

Kind words matter!

If there's a writer you enjoy, a podcast you really like, a game you love or a song you listen to all the time, somebody spent a ton of time making that.

They made it look easy because they're good at it.

But it wasn't easy, and you have no idea how much your support matters to them!

06.03.2026 05:47 ๐Ÿ‘ 3 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I know the internet trains us to want everything on demand and for free.

But it's important to remember - if you love something someone makes, support them by:

Amplifying their efforts
Being appreciative with kind words
Compensating them for their work

It makes a huge difference!

06.03.2026 05:47 ๐Ÿ‘ 12 ๐Ÿ” 4 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I'm hopeful it was with good intentions since it would have been a supporter.

But also hopeful it's a one-time thing! We've all gotta respect each others' need to eat!

06.03.2026 05:35 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Just a reminder that many of our best gaming content writers aren't hobbyists with full time jobs like me - they need your financial support and protection of their work!

It irks me that Kimimi had some of her work stolen like this by a supporter. Not cool!
