Nice - mad scientist with some style! Just going in simpler pullover & jeans in DC, should've planned better โ
Very direct way to communicate this shift - which has been done solely for administrative reasons, rather than supporting the best science, US competitiveness, or other meritorious reasons
I was on Capitol Hill today with @asbmb.bsky.social urging lawmakers to support strong federal investment in
scientific research and training. Also to support : predictable and sustained funding.

Proud to be one of a 60-person @asbmb.bsky.social team visiting Capitol Hill today, meeting NY Congressional delegation to share about the importance of NIH & NSF funding, basic research, and training in the U.S. Glad to speak up as one of 11,000 ASBMB scientists! #ASBMBAdvocates #ScienceServesAll
The Protein Data Bank (#PDB) has reached a new milestone: 250,441 entries in the archive, a record since its founding in 1971, all thanks to the efforts and contributions of the structural biology community.

A new Annenberg poll shows Americans trust federal career scientists and independent medical groups more than in the political leaders running U.S. health agencies

Thanks, John! Doing what I can -
This mix of scientific research, public communication, and advocacy is tremendously important - and glad to have wonderful ways to engage in all gathering here in DC over the next few days
Just arrived in DC for a busy few days speaking up for science - Friday visiting Congress with @asbmb.bsky.social and Saturday joining the @standupforscience.bsky.social rally on the Mall - before hearing and sharing some great science at the ASBMB annual meeting!
I just made an account and voted for this biology laboratory made of LEGO to "promote biological research and inspire more people into the world of biology". They need 10K votes. Reposting and/or voting below would be helpful. ๐ค

A vote on Vought? yes, please
Hard not to worry that this isn't another attempt by OMB's Russell Vought to override Congress's power of the purse.

Eloquent piece in NYT by @sciencewhizliz.bsky.social, who I
am proud to work with on the Public Affairs committee for @asbmb.bsky.social, sharing her path as a scientist and person re: a topic that reflects the many successes of and challenges for public health today

Itโs a privilege to work with Liz on ASBMBโs Public Affairs Advisory Committee - she is truly gifted in communicating science to non-scientists!

Great reporting, thanks for drawing attention to this latest turn of events. Despite majorities of the US supporting spending *more* on R&D, we have this kind of back-office bureaucratic action at hand. Congress sent clear message supporting US scientific research, needs to see it through -
Congress rejected massive cuts to US science budgets for 2026, but much of the money still isnโt flowing to researchers.
The culprit? The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is quietly slow-walking the release of funds. ๐งต๐
