Same thoughts, both as a dev and writer/blogger myself. (considering that I also use GenAI as virtual therapist of sorts while autistic in πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ society is another can of worms)

Next time you see someone braying about how AI is killing art, check their profile. It can be instructive. Do they actually repost creatives or post supportive comments?

Nothing kills art like dead silence. I burned out on music because I'm a social animal and nobody cared when I talked about it.

LLMs are the final boss of "all models are wrong, some models are useful." You can get solid results if you embed guardrails like "link to # sources for each fact," but you still have to check the facts. You have to know their limits: math is out, but making a script to do the math usually works.

What's that you say!

It was all just fear pushing by bad faith groups and that trans women pose no threat to cisgender women.

An extreme Kansas bill will invalidate the drivers license of every trans person in the state. It was passed alongside a particularly extreme bathroom bill, meaning that the implications of every trans Kansan losing legal ID overnight has largely been missed.

I think you’re totally right that it’s going to look different than it did with Twitter but I think it’s actually better for open social.

Twitter and Bluesky are mutually exclusive in a way that TikTok and Skylight are not!

This is much more of a β€œwherever you get your podcasts” situation

On almost everything – fraud, polarisation, radicalisation, misinformation – evidence suggests that over 60s are in much more urgent need of online protection and education than teenagers.

But that issue gets zero political attention, and is a total non-starter. Nothing good will come of it.
