Fortunate to have a #Starling murmuration going on locally, just a shame work gets in the way...

Thanks Rob
They are lovely birds and there are birds you have that I would love to see also π
A male bullfinch with a black head, vivid orange-red chest, and grey wings with a white band is perched on a branch. The softly blurred background in shades of brown and green highlights the bird's bright plumage. Warm lighting captures the bullfinch in a striking side profile.
#MixedPairs is todayβs #BirdOfTheDay, pairs of birds of different species.
But I have gone for the alt theme of #Finches, hope you like this male #Bullfinch

A grey heron stands amid tall grass, featuring a striking long neck and sharp beak. Its plumage is a mix of grey, blue, and white with distinctive black head markings. A single, delicate reed curves near its beak. The background is a soft blur of muted browns and greens.
Several grey herons are in leafless branches; two are perched while another flies in the foreground. The herons have long necks, slender bodies, and grey plumage. The scene creates a natural and serene atmosphere with muted colours and intricate branch patterns.
Todayβs I am going for the alt theme of #NestBuilders for #BirdOfTheDay.
This time of year I try to spend as much time as possible at a local heronry.

Thank you Linda, took a break from all social media for a while to recharge the batteries. But now I have my mojo back and planning a few things with my photography going forward π
A puffin stands on a rocky surface against a pale blue sky, facing left. The puffin holds several small fish crosswise in its colourful orange and yellow beak, its black and white plumage and bright orange feet clearly visible.
#BirdOfTheDay theme today is #SideView, birds that are side on to the camera.
So how a bout a #Puffin with a beak full of food?

Cheers Alan and the stars certainly aligned for todays challenge π€£π
A small goldfinch with yellow and brown plumage perches on a wire fence in a sunlit field. The background is softly blurred, giving a warm, golden glow. A wooden fence post and dry grass add texture to the peaceful scene.
Todayβs #BirdOfTheDay theme is #PerfectLighting a bird capture in good lighting. The Alt theme is #Finches.
Well here's my photo that covers both theme's: a backlit #Goldfinch

Three nests with seabirds, likely kittiwakes, are perched on narrow rock ledges of a steep, mossy cliff. The birds tend to their young as white streaks from droppings stain the rock beneath each nest, creating vertical trails down the cliff face.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #FourOrMore, captures of 4 or more birds in 1 photo.
Took a little time to find one, but here's one of nesting #Kittiwakes from the Farne islands last year.

Cheers Rob
A sharp action shot of a male Common Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna) in flight, showcasing its distinctive red bill, chestnut breast band, and dark green head. The bird is captured mid-stroke against a dark, moody, blurred background featuring the Paddy Fleming hide at Washington WWT, creating a dramatic low-key effect.
#BirdOfTheDay today is #BestOfTheMonth well my best was yesterday's post...
So here's my 2nd best, a Shelduck in flight.

Thank you
Thank you so much
π
Thank you
Cheers Alan, was so pleased to get it before it went out of frame
Thank you Kath
A high-speed action photograph of a male Eurasian Siskin (Spinus spinus) in mid-flight with wings fully extended. The bird features a black crown, bright yellow face, and olive-streaked plumage. Sunlight highlights the translucent yellow wing bars against a blurred background of dark, wintry branches with soft, natural bokeh.
The #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #WideOpenWings birds with wings wide open.
I think this #Siskin photo taken this past weekend fits the bill.
#EastCoastKin #birdphotography #ukwildife
Cheers Rob
Thank you so much
Thanks Alan π
A small, round juvenile chiffchaff with light brown and white feathers perches on a thin branch. The background is softly blurred, displaying various shades of green. The bird's tiny feet grip the branch as it gazes directly forward, creating a serene and focused image.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Borb, bird looking round or pear shaped...
Hope you enjoy this juvenile #Chiffchaff

Cheers Alan, both species really do know how to strike a pose π
A juvenile northern gannet with speckled black and white feathers stands on grassy ground, looking to the right. The blurred blue water background highlights the juvenile northern gannetβs bright blue eye and long pointed beak.
A male great spotted woodpecker with black, white, and beige plumage and a red patch on its head perches on a mossy tree branch; the dark, blurred background makes the bird stand out in sharp focus.
The #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #PowerPose any bird showing strength through its stance.
I have two photos for you today, firstly a #Gannet and then a #GreatSpottedWoodpecker

Thank you, I do enjoy photographing the more 'common' species
Thank you Nicole
Two grey herons engage in an aerial dispute in a woodland setting. One hovers above with wings spread wide, while the other, wings partially open, faces upward. The background is dense with dark, bare branches and leaf-littered ground, creating a dramatic, natural scene.

A small dunnock with brown and grey striped plumage perches on a stalk amidst a golden field. The background is softly blurred, highlighting the bird's detailed feathers and alert posture. Warm sunlight casts gentle shadows, enhancing the earthy tones of the scene.
It's the weekend, that must mean it's #SmallBirdSaturday.
How about one of the most underrated birds the #Dunnock.
