when people say "don't trace photos to learn art" it's not because of any absurdist moral stances or whatever, it's because your brain automatically corrects for lense distortion in photos but not when it is translated to lineart. observe.

Southern Island, a calm tropical island with overgrown ruins, from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon in a modern pixel art style. Latias and Latios are in the middle of the island.
Pixel art: Isometric rendition of Fortree City, a city of treehouses, from Pokémon Emerald. May and Wally are visiting the city as many Pokémon go about their day around them in nature.
Pixel art diorama of Floaroma Town from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. Dawn and Piplup are in the center of town with many flowers and Pokemon going about their day surrounding them.
Isometric pixel art rendition of Cherrygrove City from Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver. It's a small town by the sea, with lots of cherry blossom trees and flowers. Kris, Gold, Lyra, and Silver are in town with their starters. Around them, Pokémon are relaxing and floating in the gentle wind.
Happy Pokémon Day!

Welcome, newcomers! You're just in time for... 80 weeks of #BringBackProjectDragon! A fan campaign to help spread the word of #Everhaven / #ProjectDragon, a cancelled game, and perhaps help bring it back by alerting other studios of its existence that there IS interest in it.
#cancelledgames
Been drawing but not posting much lately, so here’s a character I’ve been working on ✌️
Meet Effie, one of the Five Heroes of the Inner lands in #Everhaven. Her best friend and mount is a red Plains Wyvern named Pacer. Effie introduced the game's creature mount mechanic. #BringBackProjectDragon #ProjectDragon

Think of an egg, okay now that egg is a robot, but that robot is made of terracotta clay. And full of holes like a flute. And he's got accordions for arms and chimes on its back. Got all that? that's Oca!
One of the most important designs of the whole project for me was Oca! Our ocarina golem. I kept telling my teammates “we need weirdos! Weird little guys!” But everyone really understood once I came in Monday with Oca to pitch. He’s a living clay ocarina with accordion arms 🎵
photo of a Pilot Hi-tec-C Coleto multipen frame loaded with 3 hardnesses of mechanical pencil lead and an eraser.
drawing I made of a chunky dragon leg made with the coleto multipen pencil. It takes a lot of girth to carry this load
Pilot makes a modular multipen called a Coleto that you can swap out different color inks but they also make mechanical pencil components for it. So I loaded it up with 2h, 2b, and 4b lead plus an eraser component and now I have the ultimate pencil, the Omega Pencil.

I always find that whenever I pick up the pen after a break my art improves in leaps and bounds since the skill was never gone, and in fact your art improves through your observation skills not just your physical drawing skills
"Draw every day" is straight up bad advice
Draw regularly, yes, but the hand is a muscle and like with any skill, rest days are critical. You need to rest and recharge, read/watch/play etc in order to keep those creative juices going
If you try to force it then it's just gonna lead to burnout
when creating an oc, remember the 3 S rules:
1. self-indulge
2. spite
3. sthink with your dick
Nothing like not drawing for a week to remind me why I draw every day
Awoooof?
As we enter the New Year remember fear of making bad art is holding you back. Fear of people not liking your work is holding you back. Rejection is holding you back
You'll make bad art, you'll have people not like your work, and you'll be rejected. Moving past it is half the job of being a creative
