and the reality is all data is produced. you design an instrument to measure something be it sentiment or temperature or frequency of occurrence and map your underlying signal to a useful construct
even meters and celsius do not inherently exist absent the tool used to measure them!
yas! in particular what pulled me in was the simple plain language used combined with great data storytelling www.portland.gov/bes/about-bi...
simple t-shirt made of knit stitches with 2 by 2 rib along the hems
side view of the hood, loosely crocheted mesh with a tie at the chin
back view of the hood showing the back seam down the middle
eeeee finished blocking my latest finished knit project plus put the leftovers to use and crocheted this fun little hood
yarn is from the aptly named Blue Sky Fibers and is the squishiest, softest cotton 10/10 would knit again

still getting settled post-SRECon and so far have:
โ
filled out the #srecon post-event survey
โจ๏ธ treated myself to an IBM keyboard from Free Geek as a reward for delivering "live, laugh, log"
๐โโฌ let Norman sniff every inch of my luggage
I keep flip flopping between investing in my Mac setup or really committing to Linux Mint.....
and then not too long after that when I was training under our data analytics guru for recruiting I merged a PR that completely borked our reporting for a good couple days ๐
the highs and lows of learning about version control and the impact changes can have lol
do you remember your first PR?
i do bc it was so joyously received
back in my PeopleOps days I had to make a very tiny PR to update some link in the product org docs
so many devs and EM's were stoked to see a PeopleOps'er contributing I got many nice emojis and comments it was lovely
stunning!!
Coming tomorrow, the next episode of the @voidincidents.bsky.social podcast.
"at the end of 2023 we [Strava] decided to migrate to OpenTelemetry and noticed we had an increase in [tracing] adoption. Weird. That was not our plan."
"we actually saw a 50% increase in adoption"
(!!!) many orgs would love to have even a quarter of devs actually using tracing
revisiting Noa Levi's amaze Monitorama talk "How we tricked engineers into utilizing distributed tracing"
imho a must watch for anyone working on adopting/expanding tracing usage

if only the pj pants had pockets...then they would be my #1
(and yes I do have an entire CNCF section in my closet after only a few years of KubeCon volunteering)
Paige giving a thumbs up in a fuzzy blue gopher hoodie - the hood is the head of Goldie
tbh I got this on a whim and mostly to use up the last of my #CNCF Store credits from volunteering as co-Track Chair for KubeCon
but ngl... itโs actually my new fave hoodie. itโs SO cozy

iโve got plenty of ideas for future vids, but lmk what o11y concepts trip you (or your teammates) up, let's chart this course together ๐บ๏ธ
pssstโฆ I did a thing ๐
join me on a journey through the vast seas of cloud-native observability! ๐โ Iโll break down key terms, concepts, and need-to-knows in a friendly way
first up an intro to cardinality www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqNh...

heh the title is a bit misleading its more like:

ugh can I not edit posts??? I forgot to upload the alt text :(
ALT: Response size, color by route scatter plot
y-axis shows response size in bytes and x-axis is time
this view really highlights individual paths, visible as horizontal striations.
data storytelling is an art Observable has perfected
"This heatmap previously revealed a bug where we were loading 200+ notebooks to serve a gallery of only 4โ9; by fixing the bug, we reduced the total number of >50KB responses by more than half!"

I get asked a lot (from marketing colleagues) why I use the term "ops" or "operators"
and to me its about acknowledging the distinct and important role that SRE/Infra/"DevOps" teams bring as a complement to devs
kicked off my Monday reading Is Ops A Bullshit Job? from @danslimmon.bsky.social
"Operations entails constant negotiation between these two spheres: the abstract sphere of software, and the much larger, more complex sociotechnical sphere." ๐ฏ

๐ฏ agree processing at the source is such a benefit with TPs
sounds like there's a follow up blog post with some reference architectures covering those cases ๐ค
will think on Mrs Klaus - what would she be tracking, his speed, route, types of cookie eaten?
