I don't disagree about violence being common, sorry for implying that.
My intention is to imply that the level of violence expected in Australia is an order of magnitude less than in the US, and part of that is that we don't have the same displays of hard power happening here like in the US.
I think that's where our perspectives likely differ, then. IMO wielding this kind of hard power can unintentionally normalise a higher expectation of violence within society. Personally, I'd only want to reach for it if things are already escalating, like a sort of "MAD Theory", but for small arms.
Or only if soft power fails?
Australia just had a complete wipeout of its main right wing party, so I certainly have no want for hard power right now.
So, to clarify, if that was to change, your suggestion is to wield this hard power to try and influence politics instead?
