There is a kind of large, flightless bird called an elau that is a dietary staple of the aplunn. The birds range through the Nomad territories, Tula'tevenn Province and Shu'venath Province. People in those two provinces don't hunt them, except under dire circumstances, to keep them available for the dragons.

The hayarinn is the national animal of Horyinn. They believe it to be a god in mortal form or, at the very least, a sacred animal. As those who've seen a hayarinn experience a sudden spurt of luck afterward, many believe that these creatures have some association with Ixterinn, god of luck. Seeing one is a good omen.

People commonly use oxen or donkeys to pull carts. Fancier ones are horse-drawn. Horses are the most commonly used riding animals. Other mounts--such as yahal, wyndchilds, and odlavi--are a rarer sight.

The major difference between an animal and people is the ability to communicate or make their minds known to those around them. The biggest example of this are the dragons. For centuries, people thought they were merely large animals. The dragons viewed people the way they'd look at insects. These views were forced to change when the first dragon Chose a rider. This pair was Kalainn and a solinn named Holtrenn. The image is of a gold dragon.

Many of Keverynn's unique creatures can be domesticated with enough time and patience. One of the most common is the pittin. While not mentioned by name, they have popped up in the books so far.

Most of Ashrinn's interactions with Keverynn's strange food happen off page as they're not particularly relevant to the story. Shortly after she and the crew arrive on Keverynn, they have to scavenge for food. They find kala berries and yahalaies mushrooms.

Chounen is also responsible for training the mounts of the other Dragon Warriors and she takes it on herself to train any mounts used by the Imperial family and those who serve them.
With her ability to communicate with animals, Chounen has a distinct advantage. She is able to pull off stunts that would be impossible for anyone else. She and Kadjem, her current horse, get along wonderfully.
Keverynn is home to many strange plants with varying degrees of edibility. Among those that are commonly cultivated are cloudtop mushrooms and ojube are popular as they require little maintenance.

This was such a good book
A red-haired woman in a long-sleeved red shirt under a short-sleeved black tunic. Her pants are white and tucked into brown boots. She rides an equine creature that somewhat resembles a horse with shaggy fur that only goes down to its knees, a short tail, and dragonfly wings. The legs from the knee down are covered in black scales, and the legs end in cloven hooves.
The wyndchilds of Keverynn are one of the species that has gone through the most drastic changes from conception to now. While their resemblance to horses is superficial, they fall under the equine species banner, so they're included.

Jellyshrooms are about the size of an index finger and found in spread out clusters of up to 19. They are bulbous and weighty. Their drooping red caps are covered in bumps. They are slightly luminescent.

The flower known as chume'taly's ear grows mostly in Me'chu'sholan Province, but it can often be found in southern Gira'loyis Province as well. It is often used in art and other mediums to indicate the province or its people. The flower has a dark green stem and an orange blossom shaped like a cat ear.

The kavaliira is a tree native to the Chume'taly Forest. It's wood is notorious for not holding glue very well. Only the chume'taly know how to work with it. The image is a tree with a twisting trunk and clusters of dark green leaves.

The centauricorn people of Melphor aren't a common sight outside of the homeland, but they're still well-known to the other races.
This one in particular is Uktala the Bountiful, an elder among the gods.

The Soulforge Alliance, with Empress Hihaye at their head, won the War of the Roses. This led to the death of Empress Hilandra, the erradication of the kairyyl people, and the ban on entering Kaishivan (now known as the Forbidden Lands). Linndan, the protagonist, is called on to witness the execution of a woman found wandering around in the Forbidden Lands and uncovers traces that the kairyyl aren't as extinct as they thought.

Within each country, the government is relatively stable, with some rulers doing a better job of it than others. The problem with having an immortal monarch is that Hihaye doesn't view things through the same lense as mortals do. She lacks the sense of urgency they do as she focuses on longer term matters.

As their last act of leadership before stepping away, the gods set up rulers in their countries. Those rulers have control over their country, but ultimately answer to the empresses. Prior to the War of the Roses, the countries more or less kept to themselves, rarely feeling the need to bring matters to the empresses. In the event known as the Forging, relations between the countries (excluding Kaishivan) were formalized. The emblem of the Souforge Alliance is a golden shield emblazoned with a many-rayed sun. Behind it are replicas of the staves of office from its member countries.

Partly because most people wouldn't understand going to other worlds, but also because horses on Melphor have cloven hooves. Keverynn's don't. So he passes this off as a deformity.
Linndan has had a lot of horses in his long life. Xan is the latest one.
Xantoxu is the only other horse in the Aetherium to have a name on the page.
Xan is actually from Keverynn, a fact Linndan has to hide when he's forced to return to Melphor.
