We come bearing good news: we are slowly but surely working towards the re-launch of Anathema Mag: Spec from the Margins, which involves expanding our team. Would you like to be part of it? (1/3)
"..I WILL SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC."
Whoever added this part of the Constitutional oath, thank you πΊπΈ
I have been so excited since I found out this would be announced today! RIP any ability for me to concentrate: www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2...
Sad to see On Spec magazine will no longer be publishing a print version because of the cost. On Spec was the first place I published, so it holds a special place in my heart. Please support the magazines you love with subscriptions! onspec.ca/2025/02/07/o...
Down to just $100 shy on February's rent.
*tired woooo*
If people want to hire me for something to cover that last speedbump, great. But I think it's probably just easier if like 2, 3 people pick up the 2025 subscription from the Huldra House store?

Don Cheadle appearing on Saturday Night Live in 2019. He is about to introduce the musical guest. The stage is behind him, audience members behind him have their backs to him. He is looking into the camera. Heβs wearing a baseball cap of some kind and a dark shirt with the phrase PROTECT TRANS KIDS in white letters across his chest.

Itβs just occurred to me to mention this: My novel coming out from Tor in 2026 now has a title! The Subtle Art of Folding Space
Mr. Rogers. Can you imagine what kind of person you must be to hear that, from him?
This has been extended to Jan 8.
I let my membership lapse because I was too disgusted by the orgβs failure to produce even the most lukewarm condemnation of ongoing genocide, but if youβre currently a SFWA member & havenβt forfeited your humanity I think signing it is a good thing to do.
PLEASE DO THIS.
I AM BEGGING. I am involved with vetting works for the Igntye awards. AND it would REALLY help if venues both print and online put the word counts at the top of short stories, novelettes and novellas.
I am not understanding why this isn't just done after all this time.
Oct's Monthly Macabre was Spiritual, Occult & Religious Horror.
"As long as horror tells stories of humanityβs deepest fears, questions of Heaven and Hell will always be implied or inferred." says @brodiehubbard.bsky.social in this incredible essay.

Should the early bird special be available *on* Sunday? I'm trying to buy a membership but the page appears to be closed.
Hey Greg! Nice to see you here!
Hey folks!
If you're an artist who sometimes takes commissions, please reply with a link to your portfolio. That way, I can link it to folks later who ask me "hey krista, know any artists".
If Canadian, please identify yourself (as some of us can get grants for you).
Thanks! Please share widely.
It has come to my attention that not enough writers know about the Submissions Grinder.
It's an EXTREMELY helpful site that you can find here:

C'mon, you didn't think I'd miss my last chance to post this? Wednesdays are the most Supernatural days of all! 4 books for $5, 11 books for $20.

The SSI asset limit is one of the most bullshit, punitive, damaging restrictions in existence.
I yeeted a new story out into the world today. Hopefully this first submission is treated with kindness, for it is a fragile thing.
Popping in to boost the signal for the @smallwondersmag.com Kickstarter bc they are SO CLOSE to funding a second year of tiny, gorgeous stories and they only have a few days left:

Anyone have experience with Vellum, or have alternatives to suggest? Vellum looks like it generates really nice ebooks, but it's not cheap.
It's been a while, but I'm starting to feel like an active writer again. I never stop writing, but I rarely submit polish and submit anything. Now I've got five stories on submission. Let's keep that up until I run out of places to send them!
Folks did you know you can subscribe to the AI Imagery Labeler, and it will filter out AI image content from you feeds? Works very well, is totally free and makes your life so much better. π§‘
Also, took the official English proficiency test, which is the first requirement I need in order to apply for Canadian Citizenship. So that was driving from home, to Chatham, home, to Windsor, and back again.
That test, being both ADHD and likely on the spectrum, was...interesting.
Phew.
Picked Bram the cat *back* up from the vet, after an overnight stay. Post-dental surgery, he's walking on his hind tip-toes and has a slight limp. It's concerning.
He's eating and drinking normally, and using the litter box, so we're in a wait and see mode.
White cat stoned out of his mind following dental surgery.
Bram is home after having four teeth removed (three canine and a molar) and wants all of you to know that he feels worse than he looks. Poor little dude is locked in the drink tank until heβs steadier on his feet.
I wish. He's more apt to leap onto my chest when I sleep, though. And now the other cats are starting to discover my betrayal. It's going to be a long night!
Middle-aged white cat staring into your soul.
This happy little idiot just had his food taken away in preparation for dental surgery in the morning. There are good odds he's going to pounce on me in the middle of the night when he realizes his food dish is missing and the treat lady is out of business.
