Damn, they were doing so well
I swear to god if I hear that song one more time today
No, a world shaped by Trumpβs mercurial temperament & might-is-right principles actually isnβt good for Putin - for as long as he indulges his illusion of total victory in Ukraine.
The Alaska summit won't change that.
My essay in @nytimes.com

Russia's foreign minister arrived in Alaska today wearing a "USSR" sweatshirt.
Trump has privately encouraged Ukraine to step up deep strikes on Russian territory, even asking Zelenskyy whether he could strike Moscow if the US provided long-range weapons, according to people briefed on the discussions.

European messaging today in Paris was exemplary. Strong message that Europe wonβt prematurely lift sanctions for sake of a terrible Black Sea deal. Efforts to goad Trump into seeing heβs being played. Signals that Europe wonβt accept caps on Ukraineβs military. And pressing on w/ coalition planning.
The Kremlin has been messaging all day that it wanted a pause in arms deliveries to Ukraine as a condition of a full ceasefire. (As though Russia would cease taking deliveries from China, Iran and N. Korea.)
The absence of a full ceasefire suggests the White House didn't cave.
People have asked me recently... what if...? would you go...? My personal and strongly held opinion is that opportunists who rush back to Russia will get what they deserve, and probably won't have to wait long for it
But don't listen to me, here's @eribakova.bsky.social for the FT

Prediction: Putin is about to hit Trump with a major reality check.
Its a better look than eyeliner tbh
Yah, next scene, not uniform
Also some navy stuff like this in the early 2000s. I think we might be able to say its been 20 years tbh since hes actually put on a real uniform.
Also perhaps this (but hard to tell, its maybe just a hunting jacket) in Chechnya right after he first becomes prez, as seen in the excellent @nbcnews.com documentary Putin's War: Killer Instinct
Crowdsourcing this: I know Putin has worn various military regalia in the past, but can anyone recall a single example of fatigues/an actual uniform rather than a field jacket/overcoat and funny hat?
This is why I like Bluesky
Maybe the reboot can clarify
One of the most fascinating sub-topics of this era is how so many "libertarians" claimed Rand as their ideological mother only to completely turn on all of her core assertions when Obama was elected...and then went on to *all of this*. (This is neither pro/anti-Rand, its just how many of them went).
Its been too many years...but do I recall correctly President Clark backing the Centauri annexation of Narn?
This was all covered in Babylon 5 btw
'Ukraine appears to have steered away from Americaβs first brazen, extractive demands into something that is closer to a joint investment venture. The deal looks to be a good way short of the $500bn βpaybackβ' www.economist.com/europe/2025/...

@covertshores.bsky.social Mr. Sutton hello! Hoping to chat with you for NBC News. Any chance you can point me to direct contact details?
Why is there not more talk of the Gaza deal creating a whole new wave of Islamic terrorism? Or is that unlikely?

I canβt believe we lived long enough to see the South Park movie become relevant again
The lore is going to be deeper than we are prepared for I think
