While I have no ill will toward the βATmosphereβ (Bluesky/AT Protocol), the contrast in funding models is hard to ignore. The fediverseβs support from strategic investments in open infrastructure (like NLnet or STF) feels far healthier than ATmosphere's heavy backing from crypto-linked VCsβa [β¦]

Today I Donated To the Fediverse
Once again, the Internet is under attack, but this time its enemies are back with a vengeance and with more fury than the corporate and government threats of the 90s and early 2000s. The elitist, billionaire Elon Musk bought Twitter, the rogue states of US and Isr*l bought TikTok, and now the drug addicts Peter Thiel, Alex Karp, and Larry Ellison are buying up internet security real estate to convert it into a global surveillance network running on AI technology using Palantir and Oracle software. Their plan is to turn the internet into a global surveillance system to build a database about everyone, just like Jeffery Epstein built a blackmail system to build a database of government leaders, celebrities, diplomats, CEOs, and any other important person in compromising situations.
The web was supposed to be _for_ us, but now the powers that be are turning it against us. Weβre losing critical parts of it bit by bit to sadistic psychopaths with deep pockets and a hard-on for human suffering because they were likely bullied as kids or abused by their own parents. And now they have a hatred for people.
https://youtu.be/fZ_65R7yG6k?si=ZyPosiPUBuJi8ra2
Yesterday, I made the conscious decision to abandon mainstream platforms and support independent web services on the Fediverse.
Rather than using mainstream social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, I now use indie federated platforms like Pixelfed, Loops, and PeerTube and fund them every month. I donβt mind paying, as long as Iβm paying for a cause I believe in. The free in freedom, isnβt free. These platforms donβt have the deep pockets like Big Tech does, so we must donate to them to keep them running, progressing, and to provide alternatives to using the compromised Big Tech platforms.
I also set a monthly donation to Internet Archive because, ya know, itβs Internet Archive that also hosts the Wayback Machine, and we need a curator for antiquated internet content. Especially more now than ever since Elon Musk cut their government funding. The evil powers that be are trying desperately to erase any historical evidence that is a threat to their agenda, so they can set up a nihilistic world that not only benefits them, but also one where they can ignore laws and make their own rules.
The internet is in danger, and I donβt think people are taking it seriously enough.
The fediverse is the future.

Future Knowledge | The Open Web at a Crossroads: A Conversation with Vint Cerf, Brewster Kahle, Cindy Cohn & Jon Stokes | Podcastindex.org
What made the early web so thrilling, and how do we reclaim that spirit today? In this special episode, recorded at Georgetown Universityβs historic Riggs Library, leaders who helped build the internet and those fighting for its future come together to chart a path forward.Featuring Brewster Kahle (Internet Archive), Vint Cerf (Google), Cindy Cohn (EFF), and Jon Stokes (Ars Technica), and moderated by Luke Hogg of the Foundation for American Innovation, this conversation looks back at the webβs origins to imagine what a truly open, innovative, and empowering internet could still become.This...

Conduit - Join the internet freedom movement.
By running a Conduit Station, you immediately help people in censored countries access the free and open internet around the world.
I haven't seen almost anyone here talking about Psiphon Conduit. Much of last month there was over 10 million daily devices connected to it in #Iran. It's now reporting just over 300 in with the ongoing internet blackout still in place.
