You are doing the right thing. You are trying. You are caring. You are loving them. You want it to be different. And it will be one day. But today it is hard. And I don't doubt how hard it is and how hard you are trying. Keep trying. Keep caring. Keep loving.

Patience. I know it seems like really unhelpful, but patience. This will change. It might take years. But I have seen it happen. We've not had food problems with my kids. But there are so many things that I have despaired about that stopped being problems at some point.

Garmin's updater software from 2019 still works.

I found a mini-USB cable.

All updated and working fine!

Amazing. (And kudos to Garmin for the update)

They don't make technology like they used to.

I found an old hand-held Garmin GPS device. At least 18 years old.

Takes 2 AA batteries - no problem powering it. But it was stuck showing the wrong date and time from 2006.

Garmin released an update for this device at some point that fixes this.

It was so good to head to my local WordPress Meetup today. Such a kind and smart and generous bunch of people. It was really refreshing.

An obviously spam, phishing email that claims to be from SendGrid, but isn’t. Reads:

A Personal Note

Hi,

I'm writing to you today about something personal. Recent developments in Iran have affected my family directly, and I know many others are going through similar experiences.

The people of Iran deserve better. They deserve freedom and the right to determine their own path forward.

Because of this, we're adding a footer to all outgoing SendGrid emails to help raise awareness and support. If you'd prefer not to include it, you can easily disable it in your account preferences.

Then there is a Manage Account Preferences button.

I get a ton of this SendGrid spam. Doesn't seem to get filtered.

But this is new. Current-affairs-specific phishing attacks?

Wow.

Is anyone talking about the fact that privatising knowledge and skills in a paywalled AI system, AND having that system drive up the prices of tech, could increase inequality?

I’ve been thinking about this. Is this a problem?

01.03.2026 23:12 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

A thought.

We hold β€œI love you” up as the ultimate phrase of affirmation.

But I often find something more specific is more powerful.

β€œI trust you”
β€œI feel safe with you”
β€œYou make me laugh”
β€œYou are a kind person”
β€œI enjoy hanging out with you”

A close up of an AI generated image. It shows a globe in a library. The globe is impossibly levitating and seems to have an enormous new country off the west coast of the Americas, in the middle of the Pacific.

</> htmx ~ Yes, and... In this essay, Carson Gross discusses his advice to young people interested in computer science worried about the future given the advancements in AI.

This is a very good essay on LLM coding and one that I kinda align with.

I’d add hesitations about the maturity of LLM tools, potential rug-pull/bubble-collapse and the fact that having a real human TA is more valuable. (As well as All-The-Issues).

But it’s a good take.

Nice. Chargers that only charge pairs of batteries can die now.

I have about five of those drivers now. All over the house. Critical family infrastructure!

(Oh gosh, am I Rick Mitchell?)

Two level-ups on this:

1. Have several of these around the house for quick battery compartment cover removal:

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0014KMDZ0

2. You can now get chargers that charge individual batteries (because so many toys take THREE AA’s! 😬)

Example (but not the one I have): amzn.eu/d/0iS15BNZ

Realising that most of my fears about LLM-based AI services can be summed up thus:

They mega corps want to create Knowledge-as-a-Service.

They made your TV, music, books and car a subscription.

Now they want you to become dependent on them for knowledge for a monthly fee.

A former pro is helping figure skating look more authentic than ever Figure skating can be dull to watch on TV, so Jordan Cowan gets in the rink.

When I interviewed Jordan Cowan in 2021, he shared a dream of shooting the winter Olympics. If you've been watching figure skating coverage, those dramatic close-ups (including the viral Alysa Liu "that's what I'm fkn' talking about!" clip) - that's Jordan. Your next laptop could be a foldable phone | The Vergecast YouTube video by The Verge

Thanks for the mention this week! That RK keyboard works really well as a β€œtake it on holiday” device. Not so much a sling-it-in-your bag one.

This recent Vergecast also talks about keyboards to use with a mobile:

There is both diagnosed neurodivergence and probable undiagnosed neurodivergence in my household (surprised?), and I've been finding the scientific-but-practical resources of Neurodivergent Insights very helpful lately:

Genuine question: Why does everyone suddenly want their website available in markdown for agents to read. What is the use case for this?

It can’t be marketing sites.

Or content sites with monetisation.

Free content sites? Sure, just give all your content to the LLMs. 🀷

What am I missing?

And the idea came from an iOS app I tried called β€œZeitgeis”.

It's all local (local storage in the browser, if that means anything to you). No syncing. But you can export to a file and re-import another time.

I use it on my iPhone and save to iCloud occasionally.
