We are not used to seeing so much distress; we are not meant to. But we must bear witness. Do not let them tell us what we see with our own eyes isnβt true. Keep going.
A reckoning is coming and we need to be there to witness that too.

In my life Iβve seen the cruelty, prejudice, and hate that people are capable of. Iβm sorry that this generation has to experience it in their streets and on their phones, day after day. Be there for one another. We will get through this together.
We still have hope, we still have love. And as long as we have those we havenβt lost.
Itβs ok to not be ok in these times. This isnβt the first time our society has been faced with devastation and it wonβt be the last. But we will persevere.
Sending out thoughts of love today. To those protesting in the streets, to those donating or participating in mutual aid, and to those who are caring for children, family members, or themselves, just taking it one day at a time. I see you and I love you.
No one expects to become part of history. But we are here. The time we're living in will be written about, studied, and questioned. What we choose to do, or not do, will shape how it is remembered. When this moment is read about by your children or grandchildren β what will your actions say?
This is my community. This is my family. Congratulations again to Project Angel Food on the expansion of their new campus!
Their love and commitment to this community only grows stronger every day, and with each person who shows up to serve, nourish, and demonstrate that no one is ever forgotten.
The Walk for Peace is an act of love, perseverance, & hope.
The monks remind us that we donβt walk alone in our pursuit of good.
At times all we can do is put one foot in front of the other β thank you for showing us that this too is an act of courage. We will walk on & fight for peace with love.
βThe only thing more powerful than hate is loveβ βTogether we are America.β
Bad Bunny said in his art and joy what we ALL needed to hear, and what we should embody β€οΈ
Witnessing the #WalkForPeace over these last weeks has given me a profound sense of hope. Their light illuminates the best of humanity β if they can weather the storms theyβve journeyed through, so will we.
Even though all of us will experience it in one form or another, most of us are completely unprepared to navigate grief. I canβt encourage you enough to listen to the life-changing words of David Kessler. His conversation with the great Mel Robbins holds wisdom we all need to hear.
Attending Project Angel Foodβs benefit healed my heart this winter! I loved seeing these wonderful people come together to support an org that's always steadfast in its community care.
A highlight was having my portrait made β in chocolate! β by the remarkable Robert Vargas!!
We all must remember to include rest in our resistance. Thank you @hcrichardson.bsky.social for all that you do, day in and day out.
A hero of mine, @hcrichardson.bsky.social, wrote this week about heroes. I canβt stop thinking about it.
In these fractured times, it helps to remember that heroes are ordinary people choosing justice, courage, and love. Our future is being made that way, every day.
Thank you Authority Magazine for amplifying the importance of upstanders β those who choose to speak & act when silence would be easier.
Many know my story of becoming a surprising advocate, but there's still more I have to say, & am still saying! I hope youβll join me in being one less bystander.
In case you hadnβt heard, βUneasy Silenceβ is available as an audiobook on #Audible and everywhere you listen!
Narrating my story out loud, in my own voice, was cathartic and deeply personal. I hope you enjoy experiencing it as much as I enjoyed creating it: amzn.to/42lmwsn
As this year ends, Iβm deeply grateful β for time with friends and family, for creating βUneasy Silence,β and for serving in community. Iβm thankful for my support system & my voice that allow me to keep working for a more just, compassionate world. In the new year, may we keep choosing one another.
Thank you again, @zerlinamaxwell.bsky.social, for inviting me on your show. It's AIDS Awareness Month, and itβs crucial for us remind this generation that HIV/AIDS is still here.
We must use our voices to push back against cuts to science and preventative care here and abroad.
To focus on the light when it feels like weβve reached the depths of the new Dark Ages is not easy.
But finding the light in people, in nature, or in ourselves, is to defy the darkness β to sustain us and remember why we keep speaking, resisting, and caring.
If you're old enough to remember that 1992 was a presidential election year, you know that both conventions featured speakers living with AIDS. Not surprising for the Democrats, who showcased Elizabeth Glaser and Bob Hattoy.
But the Republican National Convention also had a speaker with AIDS...

Thank you, Mark, and everyone at WICN Public Radio for inviting me! It was a gift to discuss Uneasy Silence β my heart, my art, my story β and to honor those weβve lost to HIV/AIDS while reflecting on how we can use our voices to shape a more compassionate future.
The holidays can feel heavy for those navigating loss of any kind. If you or someone you care for needs extra support this season, I canβt overemphasize how profoundly helpful, comforting, and affirming David Kesslerβs resources are.
Please share them where theyβre needed.
Congratulations to #BroadwayCares on another extraordinary, record-breaking #RedBucket season! Grateful to all who gave their time and resources to this incredible community.
Bravo to every show, with a special heartfelt shout-out to my friends at #JustInTime! β€οΈ
My time with @petebuttigieg.bsky.social reignited my hope for whatβs possible when we fight unapologetically for progressive change.
I share Pete's belief that we must reject manufactured division, and focus on our communitiesβ shared needs. Weβve seen the power we have when we act together.
2025 marks the first time in nearly four decades that our nation will not officially acknowledge World AIDS Day and all it represents.
As the Trump administration continues to distort the truth and silence journalists, I urge you not to look away. We must bear witness, and refuse to forget.
This World AIDS Day, we mourn the hundreds of thousands of Americans lost to HIV/AIDS and stand with those living with the diagnosis today.
While the Trump Administration refuses to mark this day, California will never abandon our neighbors, friends, and loved ones affected.
Today is World AIDS Day, a day that reminds me of the decades-long fight for dignity, science, and compassion. Weβve come so far because activists, researchers, and communities refused to be ignored.
Today is World AIDS Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and supporting the individuals, families, and communities impacted by HIV.
