Anyways, listen to As the Eternal Cowboy and Searching for a Former Clarity today for me.

They had imitators but none of them really captured how weird some of their songwriting was in the prime. They hardly have choruses, songs don’t repeat very much, Laura’s lyrics were fucking dense and rapid fire. The guitars are fairly clean and Warren was making really cool choices on the drums.

I’ve been listening to a lot of Against Me! the last few days and for some reason it never struck me how singular of a band they were.

Sami is really disappointing.

Everything up to Blackout is really good. Plus Ken Casey hit a Nazi over the head with his bass that one time, and that’s a lot more than 99% of current punk bands have done. They’re actively talking to a fanbase that’s much more conservative than most other punk bands and not bending the knee.
