Merry Xmas! For 100s of years, Christmas was a time of revelry and chaos, where social norms were actively cast aside. Today, the paper crowns we wear for Xmas dinner remind us of a time when we could all embrace this 'misrule' - the servants being served by the 'upper classes'.

SURPRISEEE!
We're coming back on Friday for a spoooooky Halloween special on our favourite brain-munchers, Zombies!
I hope you're hungry for some more myth monsters coming your way!
Captioned 'The Bogey-Owl', a shadowy thing with claws, wings, a beak and a huge eye, follows a small child in a night-dress, who is running down a corridor, hiding his or her eyes.
I'm intrigued by the similar prefix attached to words for 'goblin' throughout the UK: eg bogle, bogey, boggart, bugaboo and in Wales bwgan. Either of the last two may have given us 'Boo!' Bug - a small, creepy thing - is perhaps from the same root word, one which may be 1000s of years old.

here's the soundbite from this weekโs episode on the Blue Mountains Panther!
The title page of 'Daemonologie, in Forme Of A Dialogue, Divided into three books: Written by the high and mightie Prince, James...' etc etc
'Daemonologie', written in 1603 by King James I of England (VI of Scotland), convinced that a storm that nearly wrecked his ship off the coast of Scotland had been summoned by witches. The canny Shakespeare wrote 'Macbeth' to gain the favour of the newly crowned and paranoid king.
