Hasbro’s CEO on J.K. Rowling. We just published our new Decoder interview with Chris Cocks, the head of Hasbro. I asked him directly about how he thinks about author J.K. Rowling’s politics and what it’s done to the Harry Potter f...

cannot stress enough that "separate the art from the artist" was meant for private individuals reconciling the art they love with its flawed creators and not meant for the ceo of a company driving a dump truck of money up to a bigot's front porch

I know I’ve got some Labour local gov’t types following me, so I want to say this clearly so that you can share it internally as appropriate: I will never again vote Labour while these policies, or Wes Streeting, are in place. I will not vote Labour at any level because of this.

Right! Back in my day, we met at a bar. Before anyone bought anyone a drink, we first exchanged social security numbers so the bartender could provide us with a complete background check---a service bars used to provide. After the background check, we used the bar's payphone to call references

when I say 'social conservatism' what I really mean is that it's nice when people have well paying jobs

right now I hate the labour party and what they're doing. if they backtrack on trans rights then they could probably win my vote back tactically against the fash

when people say 'social conservatism' what they really mean is 'vaguely soft left labour values'. I'm a hard headed realist meeting the public where they are

just call me a degenerate if you want and tell me the public long for my blood. it's more honest!

as with all articles like this, he is incredibly vague about which liberal rights he wants to roll back with social conservatism. just pablum about community

Absolutely horrific I hope Hannah is ok.

We’re in a very scary time.

The vilification of progressive ideas, and the unpersoning of certain groups (trans people, immigrants/POC, disabled people) is having real consequences, beyond even those it seemingly directly affects.

this is either totally irrelevant or a colossal waste of public finances, given no numbers I'm going to interpret it as the former.

olds are always obsessed by 20 somethings because they are scared of their own mortality and trying to control the future. in 10 years every newspaper headline will be about how gen alpha are cancelling the Sunday roast.

Your regular reminder that the UK is in fact a high trust society and anyone who implies it isn’t is either selling you a pup or has bought one.

The next few years will feature so, so SO many columns and Substacks by people claiming that things were going well and Labour just needed to 'stick with Morgan's plan'.

I love it when a CEO is asked if his firm is a societal sickness or benefit.

Just once I want a CEO to say:

“Oh we are a fuckin disease; but a disease manifest in already morally dying host. So what are you gonna do?”

if you think the greatest threat to effeminate gay boys is the trans movement and not the cis straight men who overwhelmingly exclude and brutalize them then you should walk into the ocean immediately

you wouldn't be anywhere near drunk enough never to sober up! there's no definition of drink size, but 3 small normal % beers a day, don't think I'd ever notice a hangover.

Prediction markets, like crypto, like AI, are simply just another large-scale expression of COVID trauma among the mangerial class and now they're using them to turn a fucking war into a pyramid scheme they can scam each other into investing in.

it's so funny that she tries to present whatever this is as of grown up politics. nobody has any clue what it is, no argument has been made. 'we should join trump in bombing Iran for some reason, trust me bro' was until yesterday an unheard of position in British politics.
