Why are they still calling this the Iran war when Israel is bombing everyone and has been for years now?

I have cast my vote for @avilewis.ca today to be the next federal NDP leader. I have witnessed how his campaign is a spillover of a broader social political movement to fight against fascism. This struggle is rooted in love for a different world, and solidarity as love made visible.
Crisis can be opportunity. Seize it.
Imagine the rampant carelessness and utter lack of 'science', when over 16,000 human remains' in UK institutions are of unknown provenance.
When western museums have such a history of racism and violence, and continued behaviour of disrespecting ancestors in their vaults, it's outrageous that a key argument made against repatriation is always that communities don't have adequate facilities for safely housing artifacts.
The layers upon layers of racism of this situation boggles the mind.
"Bell Ribeiro-Addy, MP and chair of the all-party parliamentary group for Afrikan reparations, said it was barbaric that looted human remains were warehoused in boxes, with many museums not knowing who they belonged to." So much done in the name of "civilization" was actually barbaric.
Early British collectors were so frenzied in their collecting of human remains for "scientific" reasons that they often forgot to label them etc "Some institutions said they held several cardboard boxes of human remains, but knew neither the number nor the provenance of the items these contained."
Return the beloved dead to their communities
Important new Guardian study: "UK museums hold more than 263,000 items of human remains from around the world, including whole skeletons, preserved bodies, such as Egyptian mummies, skulls, bones, skin, teeth, nails, scalps and hair." www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...

The paradox with Carney's thinking on the rules based order is that while he says it's dead, he also aligns himself - most recently, with the war in Iran - with the very states who are destroying it, one war crime and violation of the UN Charter at a time.
Good thread on the importance of a Settler Colonial framing for understanding and describing Israel's Jewish-supremacist expansionist enterprise.
The reason the category of settler colonialism is so vital to the Palestine/Israel discussion is that you simply cannot understand contemporary Israeli policies without it, e.g. in West Bank. Otherwise people resort to talking about the problem as one of "fanatics" - and that's just unconvincing.

Left can't resist being on wrong side of a war Whether it's Jeremy Corbyn or Zack Polanski, their foreign policy stances terrify voters outside core supporters
Well, here’s the thing about being antiwar as an ethical belief: it means you end up opposing most wars. Almost all of them, in fact. This is quite common in people who have consistent beliefs but looks insane to people who have none, or mostly just believe superior people should make the decisions.

We can be fierce champions of democracy & human rights in Iran while, at the same time, firmly rejecting unilateral & unlawful military action by one state against another. Both are, after all, grounded in the same values & the same vision for humanity. Both take us in the same direction.
You're telling me that word association tools trained on internet comments don't know how to deescalate?

Billions to the Ukraine. Peanuts to Cuba. halifax.citynews.ca/2026/02/25/c...
A million Canadians visit Cuba annually (or did, pre-pandemic). 1.4M Canadians are Ukrainian. We are giving Cuba 0.032% of what we have given to Ukraine.
A whole $8M going to Cuba, the day after Canada upped its 4-year contribution to Ukraine to $25B.
The NB gov’t wants to privatize my university.
Mount Allison is consistently ranked the #1 undergrad uni in Canada.
Here is a thread that lists all of the proven and overwhelmingly negative impacts of privatizing a public uni.

This is a presidency that hates women. It especially hates women who aren't home with children.
The Justice Department has withheld some Epstein files related to allegations that President Trump sexually abused a minor, an NPR investigation finds. It also removed some documents from the public database where accusations against Jeffrey Epstein also mention Trump.

U2 with some new songs against war and fascism www.theguardian.com/music/2026/f...
This is extraordinary. The presenter (Stefan Renna) explains how the Israeli athlete (Adam Edelman) supported IDF actions in Gaza & asserts this violates the International Olympic Committee’s rules on political statements by athletes. Mentions Heraskevych. The presenter practically offers footnotes!
Incredible victory! After years of organizing across Canada, Scotia Bank has divested from Elbit Systems!
Elbit is Israel's largest weapons company, arming the occupation and genocide of Palestine.

If we understand this type of thing as hypocrisy we are misunderstanding the emerging world order: a network of ruthless, powerful men who help only those who can give them things they want.
The denial of tenure was never about scholarship. It was a retaliatory move from @texastechlib.bsky.social to send a chilling message: dissent that threatens institutional power will be punished. Shame on Ron Hendrick, Brendon Creighton, Lawrence Schovanec turned tenure into a political tool!
