Power down?
Mesh up!
165,000 without power from the recent storms. MeshCore and Meshtastic kept going strong.

LoRa doesn't have the bandwidth for a picture sharing platform. Yes, you can send a picture in a message in a demo - technically possible. But if you had even 10 people trying to do this simultaneously, you would start needing to wait hours-days for images finish downloading. The bandwidth is tiny.
Lots of fun stuff added to the MeshCore Packet Analyzer in the last couple days! Check it out:

When you're testing, if you send a message on Public (while on Recommended US/Canada radio settings), you should be able to see them here if they make it to Portland's broader mesh: map.w0z.is/messages (choose Portland or change it in settings in the top right). Super handy tool!
The dronepeater! ๐ฅ ๐
One thing I'd suggest is send one node up as a repeater, as Bluetooth range may be too low to make it back to the ground. But LoRa will have no problem.
Companion > drone repeater > broader mesh
It could extend your reach a crazy amount. More height is always the best!
Solid approach to try both! Where are you located?
In the PNW region, we're connected pretty well from Tacoma/Seattle up through Victoria, BC, Canada.

With tropospheric ducting, we are also getting into Portland a bit, though we need more repeaters for a true link.
MeshCore is a mesh, but infra emphasis is on the repeaters not clients. It works exceptionally well compared to Meshtastic where one or two poorly configured nodes can completely break a local mesh.
Plus MeshCore has proper routing and not just some managed flood nonsense. Plus 64 hops max :)
MeshCore ๐ Most of the same hardware works with either so try both, but you might actually like MeshCore ๐

When there were rumblings that people won't know what's true or not anymore, I bet they didn't expect Google themselves to be the reason misinformation becomes widespread by simply replacing search results with AI slop.
You don't even need bad actors to spread misinformation. Google already is ๐ฅท
These examples may be small and not very important, but this class of problem threatens the foundation of society.
I am astonished Google was so quick to replace search results with AI slop.
I wouldn't use Meshtastic if either of the two things were important to me:
- Having a functional mesh that does more than collect node names, battery levels & temperatures
- Security
The security issues in MT are borderline negligence hidden behind a green padlock and a promise of encryption.
MeshCore 1.8.0 had some issues (missing builds for certain hardware and some devices having specific issues).
Version 1.8.1 of the MeshCore firmware is available which should hopefully get things squared away: meshcore.forum/t/meshcore-f...

Agreed. Shorts/vertical videos are going to be shoved down our throats whether we want it or not. Blocking as a custom block with ad blockers works for a while, but it they always come back.
