Today marks 15 years of veganism for me.

No, that’s spelling/pronunciation. And each of those are mutually understood. The ones I shared are meanings that can be misunderstood. But your example is like mine in that neither is right or wrong.
Plenty of things between the different dialects of English where vocabulary can be misconstrued, but a couple personal favorites are:
🇬🇧 scheme: plan
🇺🇸 scheme: evil plan
🇬🇧 homely: cute/cozy (US: homey)
🇺🇸 homely: ugly/plain
