Follow up to our work on eco-evolutionary dynamics of host parasite systems in complex landscapes up in Evolution @journal-evo.bsky.social. This work was done during Ruthvik's Erasmus M1 project @ruthvikpsi.bsky.social with me and @efronhofer.bsky.social. academic.oup.com/evolut/artic...

I'm teaching Statistical Rethinking again starting Jan 2026. This time with live lectures, divided into Beginner and Experienced sections. Will be a lot more work for me, but I hope much better for students.
I will record lectures & all will be found at this link: github.com/rmcelreath/s...
Finally getting off the other site and reengaging with social media. Please follow and suggest good folks to follow on here!
🌎 Experiments are central to understanding community dynamics, yet their use is declining.
We're trying to understand why.
If you work in community ecology, we'd really appreciate your input in a quick survey (<5 mins).

It took decades for the work of Mary Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell, and Shimon Sakaguchi—the winners of this year's Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology—to have clinical relevance. That and more of the best in @science.org and science in this edition of #ScienceAdviser: www.science.org/content/arti... 🧪

I was recently invited by a cool student initiative from IISER in India @fishersfishes.bsky.social (fishersfishes.github.io) to talk about networks. I conveyed to undergraduates my ideas for how ecology, evolution and their interplay should be understood in light of biological system properties.

"The myth of meritocracy in science collapses under the financial sacrifices expected at every career stage. From unpaid internships and self-funded conferences to underpaid positions, these hidden costs disproportionately exclude those without generational wealth, compounded by race and gender."

The two pictures are 11 years apart.
On 10 May 1933 the Nazi party staged ideological spectacle of burning of 'un-German’ books.

#Auschwitz warns us of where ideologies of hatred can lead to.
Straight up racism and misogyny.
Let us never forget, their issue with DEI WAS NEVER ABOUT MERIT.
Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.
