An unusual Ealing Council meeting where the Labour administration performed a series of u-turns perhaps copying Starmer. A u-turn on stopping using the Log Cabin's after school club, a u-turn on the area of the Warren Farm nature reserve and a u-turn on parking restrictions around St Mary's Perivale
In response to Lib Dem Cllr Jonathan Oxley's urgent question, the Labour portfolio holder has u-turned and cancelled the plan to cease referals to the much-loved Log Cabin's after school club in Northfield Avenue, which would have threatened its viability.

The reason why the Labour party wants a new leader is that the polls and local elections both put them on the brink of death, the policy agenda is a mess of warmed-over Milibandism pared with hypocritical social conservativism and no obvious route to the upside.
We had a great reception this weekend canvassing in Ealing Common ward. Most people we spoke to said they're definitely or probably voting in May for the local Lib Dem team: @conniehersch.bsky.social, Lakhbir Singh and I. Many people are increasingly dissapointed with Labour nationally and locally.

That's sensible in some places. A lot of it is simply about thinking through the way changes work in practice though eg stopping bikes blocking pavements by establishing geofenced parking locations seemed like a good idea but there are too few locations so some get completely overwhelmed.

I quizzed the Labour portfolio holder re how much it cost council taxpayers to construct & then demolish the flats overlooking Dean Gardens when Henry Construction went bust (he refused to answer) and why Ealing didn't react quickly like Lib Dem Sutton did when one of their developer partners folded
At Ealing's full council meeting I slammed the Labour administration for their delay implementing a levy on developers (community infrastructure levy) for 15 years, letting the developers off approximately £90m that the council could have used to improve services. @ealinglibdems.bsky.social

I've always supported trans rights. On FCC I've argued for a number of pro trans rights motions to be chosen for debate and for pronouns to be included on badges. I also have my pronouns on my profile here.

Fellow Lib Dems - ballots open today in the federal committee elections. Please give me your first preference for Federal Conference Committee so I can continue to stand up for radical policy debate at Conference and a better experience for members attending online.
Cllr Gary Busuttil and I spoke supporting the Renters’ Reform Bill especially the removal of no-fault evictions but pointing out that Labour-run Ealing council is a lousy landlord with a poor record on housing repairs and safety. All we heard from the Tories was special pleading for landlords.
Lib Dems Andrew Steed and @conniehersch.bsky.social quizzed the portfolio holder about the noise and other nuisance from Gunnersbury Park events. The cabinet member claimed that there were no breaches of noise levels but will check if Ealing officers can attend the review meeting.
@ealinglibdems.bsky.social leader @cllrgarymalcolm.bsky.social asked a question about whether Ealing Council would allow EV charging gullies. The Labour answer was no on the basis that lamppost charging is cheaper which seems utterly incorrect in the long term as the electricity prices are so high
A good day canvassing on the Trees Estate in South Ealing earlier. Lots of positive support for @ealinglibdems.bsky.social but concerns that Labour Ealing has failed to repair damp council homes.
