I only did a couple of them myself this year (I had a bunch of other stuff going on) but I hope to do more next year :D

But I loved seeing everybody else's outputs, experiments and being inspired! Keep iterating and until next year!!

Thanks EVERYBODY for making such an amazing GENUARY 2026!!

If you did all or most of the prompts, you should be very proud -- that is a significant achievement :)

And if you did a couple of them, most importantly I hope you were inspired and had fun!!

it will be open source, one day, but it's not there yet. I've got a lot more ideas for the software, but I really need a solid working prototype and as you can see from the vid, the buttons still glitch out occasionally (cause soldering is just, hard and finnicky)

but unfortunately these buttons feel slightly janky :-/ they look nice though. also it's just the front plate, because constructing/making stuff takes me soooo much time, I'm truly a software guy haha even on this low level

running at 192KHz, 32 bit integer fixed point DSP math on an ESP32-D (240MHz dual core, using one core for the audio DSP), using a 128x64 SSD1309 OLED for the GUI, 10 buttons (via MCP23017) and 5 pots finally it's all working!!!

guess who's getting 106fps on an I2C OLED1309 powered by an ESP32 comfortably running on one core, while the other core is dedicated to being a 303-inspired synth at 192KHz???

I'm gonna count the 128x64 GUI as for #GENUARY4 "Low res" 😁 #genuary2026 #genuary

btw you don't even need the `identify` tool, if your text editors doesn't bug out on large binary files, you can just open the PNG file and look for the plaintext html stuff which is at / near the end

I already do this for all my SVG ouputs (because SVG is text-based and it's easy), but this archival practice has saved my behind so many times, I really wanted to be able to do it for PNG outputs as well, and I managed to make it work 😁

The PNG code is only half a page, quite proud of that :D

Basically I wrote a tiny JS-based PNG-encoder that allows you to add custom chunks to the saved PNG image. Then I put the code of the program that generated the image inside a custom chunk.

GENUARY DAY 11 QUINE

I did the thing where it saves the thing and then the thing is actually inside the thing and it's the same thing, so it's kind of a QUINE (kind of)

Video demo is slightly too long for uploading here so I put on youtube: youtu.be/0kmgCPMnlmg

I really enjoy following what others are creating during #Genuary, but it was difficult to keep up and discover new posts. So, I created a bot that does it for me πŸ€“

Meet @genuary-gallery.bsky.social! I'm still working on the scheduling part, but it already helped me find many great creators.

however in the spirit of daily challenges, since it's past midnight where I live, this day is done. maybe I'll return to the physics engine on another day

unfortunately getting where I wanted took a bit more time than expected, and I didn't have time to actually implement any of the principles themselves πŸ˜… (making stuff bouncy or stretchy or secondary movement, etc) but the idea is there!

#genuary2026 day 2 -- twelve principles of animation

I concluded that many of the principles are really about animating physics, so I decided to update my physics engine (from genuary2024)
