I’m pausing my side projects cause stay at home wife needs a break and baby hates my phone and laptop lol. My only challenge is holding baby + how do I entertain our 4y old son + deal with my ulcer colitis

When our first born son, I took 6 weeks off and went back to work. The team I was on then was a 7am-7pm kind of stress. On call was sev2 pages that woke us up for non-issues. Now with 2nd son and better WL balance, I just want to hold him when back at home. Cause I know I wont get that time back

I enjoy the process of research > decide > build but once I’m in the zone writing cdk infra, I think often this should be better

Feels like infra as code is annoying due to end-to-end loop experience. Lot of gotchas and footguns. I need to learn more alternatives.

I respect Anthropic a lot more with their stance on AI. AI companies need money and they at least for now proved they stand by their morals

Using Azure the “Amazon way” = everything is scrutinized, security is very tight and Azure is rough. Like “This feature will be deprecated in 2024” M$ still says use it 🤣

A skill I have developed that another team’s manager pointed out to me last week - I’m pretty good at shipping projects mostly cause I’m good working with security. Its 80% of the work to ship these days, AI has yet to speed that up. They need to stop laying off security folks honestly.

my python skills are pretty basic, I do a lambda or script here and there. I can get past the many ways to setup dev environment. I’m just not a python language nerd, though it was my first real useful language. AI does make this not a big issue, I can be a generalist.

I wished youtube just let me turn it off. I think only a legal requirement to provide controls to short term videos or the threat of regulations will make these companies change. Its too addictive.

The BEST pharmacy experience I get is actually Amazon Pharmacy. Not to sound bias, but its been the best. I hope they expand to do specialty meds.

45 min call yesterday. Meds come today. No meds today. Check status - order blocked again. Call again. Okay we’re good for Tuesday now. They call me back and we do the dance all over again cause they blocked it. Again.

Man, got switched to a new specialty drug company to handle my prescriptions and its been a train wreck. Lost a week of no meds after a month of trying to work with them. They block sending me my new prescription. so many many phone calls.

Been 81 days since my 2nd son was born and then went on paternity leave. Tomorrow I go back to work.

It just felt so good to take this time off. This helped wife a bit more with the extra time vs only doing 6 weeks with our first kiddo.

Dems just suck at branding their causes. A work visa holder, just laid off, has like 2 months to leave the country or get a new sponsorship. It takes over a year to find a new tech job right now for folks. Thats scary stuff. Over staying cause kids/school/house/car etc makes sense.

They don’t ask should the over 2500+ cases where a judge ordered ice illegally kidnapped someone is supported

Folks who support ICE I talk to support legal immigrants. They are surprised how often ICE violates this.

I dunno just my gut feelings right now

I feel like the AI bubble will be a fizzle, not a pop. AI will start to raise prices as thats all they can do. That will start a chain reaction. Companies will pivot to cheapest options. Chinese AI companies will be very tempting. We’ll see major AI merges with big tech once their value drops

I’m sure if we export another 5k “illegal” immigrants next year, it’ll fix our high cost of living. Maybe thats worth a few cracked heads, a few constitutional rights ignored! /s

I survived this round of layoffs. This time my team/org didn’t get hit. Will miss the Go stores though
