I highly highly highly recommend this game. Even if the difficulty sounds daunting, the game presents a mode where you can manually save anywhere, easing the anxiety of its difficulty, but more importantly, making it easier to explore and appreciate the gameβs choices and permutations.
But it would be hard to care if the choices were shallow or didnβt amount to much. Thatβs exactly where this gameβs writing comes into play, constantly keeping you guessing at whatβs behind the next door and, even more importantly, rewarding you with unforgettable scenes, not just stats or items.
Donβt worry, as having killed him brings its own quest later down the line, and so now your choices feel truly like your own adventure.
This reminds me of one of my favorite aspects in RPGβs, particularly in Disco Elysium, where doing the wrong thing isnβt a failure, itβs exploring a new branch!
That monster you killed early on in the game? Yeah, turns out, you could have recruited it if you paid close attention to the room next to him.
But how could you have paid attention? You were strapped for resources, and risked losing it all if you didnβt kill that monster immediately!
Youβre now visually and numerically rewarded by exploring more, getting into more danger, and pushing ahead even farther.
However, this game presents a multitude of options and paths that have (at least to the player) unpredictable outcomes. You have to roll with the punches, and make every choice.
The design lends itself to the recent gaming trends that the Soulslike genre brought: Prolonged exploration with no saving, no automatic checkpoints and limited resources. This is doubled down by the gameβs risk-reward meter literally filling up as you explore longer without saving.
This is GENIUS!
Rolled (first) credits on Look Outside
I WILL gush about this game without end. Everything about that game oozes talent: its music, its art, visuals, mechanics and replay-ability
But its strongest parts are its writing and its bold game design proposal, and both go together beautifully here.
The Underboard opens tomorrow! Are you ready for the challenge? π

I'd heard people talk about the Switch 2 screen being bad, and I always thought it was exaggeration, until I had to try it for myself and they were not wrong at all. It is a really bad, really sluggish screen, and I haven't even tried its HDR capabilities.
Underboard just hit 10,000 wishlists! π₯³
Coming on February 6th, so make sure to wishlist it if you havenβt yet! #underboard #indiegame #indiedev
Howie from WHODUNNIT hehhehahhehaha
Only the second worst thing to happen after that typo
Beautiful illustrated poster for the movie No Other Choice, featuring the main character being embraced by his family and a snake, while holding a flower pot with a bonsai growing in it. Some neat details in the poster I'm seeing now is that the protagonist's competition is painted on the pot, all happily living their lives, but the pot's water streams down on our protagonist, who looks very upset and sad at what he's thinking of doing with said pot. It also features the bugs, talked about in the movie as a plague to the pear tree, on the protagonist's bonsai tree. The O in choice also circles the protagonist's daughter, which unlike the adoptive son, is his blood relative, and this plays a large role in the movie for both parents and their relationship, their goals and values.
A still from No Other Choice, featuring Man-Su (portrayed by Lee Byung-hun) sneaking into a room wearing a suit with a red overall on top of it. Not gonna spoil anything, but this is one of the few times I've laughed out loud at a movie for minutes at a time
No Other Choice
Park Chan-Wook really moves like no other, the really creative camera movements and editing make it so that it feels more dense and colorful. FUNNIEST scenes I've ever scene, and yet also a narrative that's just... bleak, morally. It's so good!!!
the amazingly talented Frances McDormand acting her heart out in a scene that's honestly not that great in writing but feels amazing. Like. she feels like a real woman who this all happened to. there's a ton of presence to her voice and mannerism and just being on screen. gosh. she's amazing, have I said that already?
Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand sharing a scene that's frankly baffling because she's clearly mogging his sub-par performance. He really did get the worst writing. The bed scene is just. ugh. who writes like that. about sex. in a movie like this??? Also the movie is about a very sensitive topic yet it's like, hardly addressed? It's a critique about how it can create shock when used but is not ever discussed, and yet is a movie that uses it for shock but never discusses it. So weird.
Three Billboards
more like three billbullshit this movie pissed me off. Frances McDormand's AMAZING performance carries this movie so high up it even convinced people it was an oscar nom but its writing is so ass it makes you cringe and wince and just end up extremely confused. Kind of evil, even.
I invite YOU π«΅ to participate as well
Joe Pesci and Marisa tomei starring in My Cousin Vinny's courtroom scene
Marisa Tomei in an amazing outfit from My Cousin Vinny talking about her biological clock
Starting with My Cousin Vinny
Honestly a new comfort movie, but like, holy shit, Marisa Tomei really steals the show, and her crazy good outfits sell it even harder
It's the return of the media thread! I'll be posting about things I've experienced, and it's mostly because I do miss posting my immediate thoughts to then look back on, and invite conversation because of them!

Nonogram is now playable! :)
Up next, crossing out squares, timer, and accounting for mistakes.
A movie-style poster for WHODUNNIT Episode 1: Hitting Singles. It features the main character Howie, sprawled over an orange background, pants undone, shirt slightly raised and a chalk outline around him. There are objects such as a phone, a wallet, baseball, horse head, condoms and money around him. The subtitle reads "He's not like that".
He's not like that.

Screenshot of a pico-8 build of my latest project, a nonogram. It features a grid of squares accompanied by the numbers indicating how many of those squares need to be filled in.
Got stuck with a bad block in another project I'm working on, so I decided to make a nonogram clone in pico-8.
It's so much fun to work on!
Felicidades!! Que vivan los novios- digo, esposos!
Look Outside is fantastic! I heard good things about it and it still exceeded my expectations. Each quest and sidequest has been wild, terrifying, funny and endearing
finally heard this line in killer7 last night and pointed at my screen
There's an unfortunately large group that only did the initial ending and wrote the game off, but the game is extremely back-heavy and it's so rewarding to get through!
The game's not just a scary horror game, rather it plays with the idea that nothing is scarier than real life
Was doing some off-stream progress for Silent Hill F and I think I'm just gonna finish it offstream, I unintentionally locked myself into the bad ending without even knowing and at this point I'd rather just lay back and get the rest of the endings
Not to say it's bad, btw, it gets so much better
And I mean, it makes sense, those are the only projects that have the million dollars required to pay for ad space in the awards show.
Also extra hilarious how the indie award receiver was a "indie" game with, clearly, 2021-era infinite money funding and talent behind it.
Award situation aside, thing that stood out was just how bad the economy is.
Used to be a ton of games releasing NOW! To: half rehash of already live cash cows (Warframe, WuWa, Genshin, fortnite), half games coming 2027 because development teams have been slashed to 10% capacity to cut costs.
