How interesting. Pretty different films in the end, but all quite good.

Yeah, killer sound work on the whole.
I'm a fan of found footage and mockumentary stuff when it's done well, but yeah, without using it to add to the metanarrative stuff, it only serves to hurt the immersion. A drag since the core movie was done really well.
Yeah, you could really just skip all that stuff if that was your preference. They kept them entirely separated.
Yeah, if the documentary bits weren't there to give further context to that stuff, I don't really get why they were there. I thought they were convincing enough, but without adding something, like ... why?
See yeah, that's my problem with it too. When you begin there, it adds an interesting flavor and context, but it also reinforces the "just a movie" feeling. Where without it most of us would turn that part of our brains off and suspend disbelief to get into the world of the movie. #folkhorrorfriday
Oh man, I was a big fan of that album and I don't know that I ever saw those. I guess you just gave me a new project, thanks!
Not sure I followed the metanarrative elements with the spliced-in stuff and what have you. They felt like they were trying to give just enough explanation during the credits to pull that together, but maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. Either way, a very cool film. #folkhorrorfriday
Huh, well that was wild. I really quite enjoyed it on the whole, though I'm uncertain whether the documentary framing helped or hurt it. Will have to watch again. The actual film proper was really well done with the two leads doing a fantastic job, especially the kid. #folkhorrorfriday
For me if you're not using that for storytelling to add to the whole experience, it just feels like a cheap way of trying to make the movie "scarier". Especially when you add talking heads to it and all that. #folkhorrorfriday
The mystery I'm okay with (I don't need it all laid out), but less okay with a documentary framing if you just ... abandon the documentary. At that point I'd rather they just show the movie as-is and maybe, if they really need to, have a brief text intro for context, I guess? #folkhorrorfriday
It takes a bit to get going, but it's pretty interesting. I think the ending is really going to be where this ultimately works or doesn't for me. It's got me intrigued but it's gotta pull it all together at the end if it's gonna work for me.
I'll reserve judgment until the end.
If they don't explain stuff, gonna need to see if someone took stills of all those interstitial pictures they keep flashing. Some of em look potentially real creepy and it feels like there's cool storytelling potential there that I'd be disappointed to see wasted. #folkhorrorfriday
Baphomet, a classic Satanic symbol. Moloch tends to look more minotaur-ish and usually on a throne. Though I think he does indeed more frequently deal in smoking meat. #folkhorrorfriday
Haha, well, you can't be blamed for that one.
Because presenting the film as an artifact adds a wider context to it in a cool way, but if they don't do anything with that, then it would end up cheapening it, I think. But with only 36 minutes to go, we're running low on time for explanations unless this story concludes soon. #folkhorrorfriday
I was basically dead before starting it, so inconclusive. #folkhorrorfriday
Really curious how this progresses. I'm into the movie now, but like ... is this a short film? Do we return to the documentary? Is there fictional commentary coming on the film we watched? #folkhorrorfriday
I would 100% put that Baphomet statue in my front yard. Just to be the ultimate vexation to my hyperconservative neighborhood. #folkhorrorfriday
Seems like it. It's a decidedly different vibe to asking someone to go away.
Japanese guy is really hard to understand, but there's definitely some "don't come over here", "don't look", and "get away" in there. Interestingly, I think he said ้ใใ (nige yo), an imperative of ้ใใ (nigeru), which is like to run or escape. #folkhorrorfriday
they're all good dogs brent
You really can't look away from this much without missing some weird little moment or something spliced in. Tough one for a social media watch party in that way, but I love the commitment to making you pay attention. #folkhorrorfriday
A lil grey pittie snoozin on the lap of Michael J. Riser, a man wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt.
This all being over a dog means I'm going to be emotionally devastated by the end, doesn't it. #folkhorrorfriday
This is doing some interesting things so far. I appreciate when 15 minutes into a movie I'm not thinking about other movies it reminds me of. Dig the odd little cuts and the ... sigils? that keep flashing on the screen for a half second. #folkhorrorfriday
Right now I'm really regretting I didn't have a chance to make dinner before this started. Also how dare you start this movie with dog euthanasia. Show something less traumatizing, like one of the kids being eaten or something. #folkhorrorfriday
Maybe hashtags are actually working now? I'm into this so far. I do very much love the "movie that kills you" idea. The Ring is one of my favorite horror films, but in the end it's not really about a movie that kills you. This has a solidly believable documentary tone so far. #folkhorrorfriday
That was my first thought. The last one I saw of theirs was The Well, which was ... rather bad despite its good elements. #folkhorrorfriday
I'm excited! It's been on my list forever.
