Today I had a run out to check on our vagrant Burrowing Owl, it's gone. On the way back, found my year Red-bellied Woodpecker. The species is slowly colonising Nova Scotia, although this year there seems to be fewer around. #birds #birding #NovaScotia

Verreaux’s eagle owl. A very large African owl. Females can be over two feet tall. Not the best picture as the light was completely gone by the time, but you can see its distinctive pink eyelids.

If do put any grub out, she'll then come in and deliver stunning but extremely judgy looks that I assume is a commentary on the food I serve... 🪶🌿

Found a lot of White-throated Sparrow underneath some electrical towers today, occupying the grape-vine covered shrubs. Seen in Haldimand County, Ontario. 🪶

A finch with a very wide beak appears to be looking annoyed at the camera. It has a bright yellow band across its forehead and most of its body is an orangey-brown. The face is dark brown and the beak horn coloured. The wings have bright white secondaries on top of black primary feathers. It is perched on a thin willow branch.
