This is a travesty. African and African Diaspora Studies at UT Austin has been one of the best programs in the country. And for historical context, this is explicitly about reversing the gains of student movements in the 60s and 70s.

ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.
If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

Conflicting info about whether Pretti was murdered by ICE or CBP makes it clear that ICE is not single "rogue agency"
ICE, CBP and ALL policing & borders must be abolished. This isn't just one agency; its an entire infrastructure of carceral control, illegalization & criminalization, and fascism.
There is no "immigration problem"
There is no migrant problem
There is no problem with illegals
There is no border crisis
Only a problem of the border and the machinery of death that upholds it.
New: Alex Pretti, the man killed by the Trump-Vance mob of agents was an outdoorsmen, a mountain biker, an ICU nurse who "would go out of his way to help," say Veterans Affairs colleagues.
Cheerful. Funny. Gentle.
And still, per sources, Trump officials are urging staff to call him a "terrorist."

Join us as we βreflect on what bringing abolitionist and ant- imperial geographies together in post-socialist contexts can do. Just as global capital connections mapped the Siliconizing moment, other connections scaffold the very possibilities of unbecoming Silicon Valley.β

Wednesday, October 29 Political Technology: Silicon Traps and Cartographic Contradictions By UC San Diego Design Lab Design@Large is a UC San Diego course powered by The Design Lab that is open to the public. Wednesday, October 29 Β· 4 - 5pm PDT About Political Technology: Silicon Traps and Cartographic Contradictions In this talk, McElroy will explore the hopes and struggles of the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project-- a data visualization, counter-cartography, and digital media collective that produces tools, maps, reports, murals, zines, oral histories, and more to further the work of housing and spatial justice. While the collective emerged to design research that could be mobilized to combat gentrification and racial banishment resulting from Siliconization, it nevertheless has continually been forced to navigate the contradictions and complexities inherent in mobilizing data, digitality, and software to organize against Silicon Valley-instigated geographies of dispossession. As we have found, even attempts to create βopenβ technology and mapping projects often end up reproducing Silicon Valley dynamics. In this talk McElroy discusses the technological and technocultural tensions, visions, and ecosystems inherent in navigating these spaces in todayβs techno/racial capitalist conjuncture, historicizing these struggles within a longer arc of attempts to craft anticapitalist and anti-imperial politically grounded technology projects.

This explains a lot. For a moment, I wondered why they'd do something as ridiculous as drop agents on the roof of the apartment building from helicopters, but of course, they did it for this footage. The same reason they were marching in formation downtown and snatched a family in Millennium Park.

To be clear: 1.) This is NOT an annual fee. It's a one-time fee that applies only to the petition. 2.) Those who already hold H-1B visas and are currently outside of the country right now will NOT be charged $100,000 to re-enter. H-1B visa holders can leave and re-enter the country to the same extent as they normally would; whatever ability they have to do that is not impacted by yesterday's proclamation. 3.) This applies only to new visas, not renewals, and not current visa holders. It will first apply in the next upcoming lottery cycle. 4:16 PM β’ 9/20/25 β’ 397K Views
And now this is the first statement from a named White House official, hours before the proclamation is set to go into effect.
Despite saying βto be clear,β her first tweet in this thread contained an FAQ posted yesterday which contains NONE of the information she lists below.
J.S. Citizenshit and Immigratior Services September 20, 2025 Memorandum TO: Associate Directors, Deputy Associate Directors, Program Office Chiefs FROM: JOSEPH B Digitaly signed by JOSEPH B EDLOW Joseph B. Edlow EDLOW Date: 2025.09.20 Director, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services **00 SUBJECT: Proclamation, Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers, H-IB On September 19, 2025, the President issued a Proclamation, Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers, to address systemic abuse of H-1B nonimmigrant visas. Pursuant to sections 212(f) and 215(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. 1182(f) and 1185(a), the entry into the United States of aliens as nonimmigrants to perform services in a specialty occupation under section 101(a)(15)(H)(i)(b) of the INA, 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(15)(H)(i)(b), is restricted, except for those aliens whose petitions are accompanied or supplemented by a payment of $100,000. This guidance applies to H-IB employment-based petitions filed after 12:01 AM ET on September 21, 2025.| This proclamation only applies prospectively to petitions that have not yet been filed. The proclamation does not apply to aliens who: are the beneficiaries of petitions that were filed prior to the effective date of the proclamation, are the beneficiaries of currently approved petitions, or are in possession of validly issued H-1B non-immigrant visas. All officers of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services shall ensure that their decisions are consistent with this guidance. The proclamation does not impact the ability of any current visa holder to travel to or rom the United States. cc: David V. Roy, Chief Counsel (A) FOUO, For Official Use Only
NEW: Hours before a new entry ban is supposed to go into effect, the federal government officially acknowledges for the first time that the restrictions do NOT apply to people who currently have H-1B visas.
