I don’t think Capcon has much say in the release of resident evil games. Capcom, on the other hand, might be able to something about that though XP

Yeah. RE7 and 8 opened a new gameplay format that 9 really refined. RE7 is one of my top favourites and definitely the most horror of all of them. If you like 7 then I’d also recommend 8, which is a ton of fun. Same gameplay style but much more campy and action-y

From everything I’ve heard 6 is definitely skippable. 7 is really good though! It’s one of the smaller more paired down ones, but I’d say it’s certainly the scariest of all of them. Worth a play if your game backlog isn’t already destroying you

I’d say it’s definitely worth playing if you enjoyed any previous RE game

I think it was tied between 2 and 7 (despite its flaws) for me. I like 9 as a more direct sequel 2, I think they did well by the characters and even managed to touch on stuff from 5 and 6 without torpedoing themselves

I finished RE9 and I gotta say, this is my favourite resident evil game for sure. I think the dual protagonist system was perfectly executed and fixes a lot of pacing issues that even the best earlier RE games suffer from. The new protag was great and I like what they did with Leon
