Et comment font les familles à Paris pour se déplacer ?
Paris, 7 mars
This is an early organizational meeting, will follow up with ways to participate afterwards. Multiple North Shore folks here!
Who’s going? Help someone get into the bike commuting life! 9am today at the UEC! wisconsinbikefed.org/events/mke-g...
Ty! We're well & enjoying all of snuggles w/ Hans.🥰
How we design streets determines what's possible re: our relationship to outdoors, community, & health.
Thanks to @minneapolismn.gov for protected bike lanes on 26th & 28th Streets that made this trip feel safe & therefore a real option. 1/3
Cities need shade and when you pave multiple lanes for cars, you open up more space to create heat islands.
Allocations of finite urban space should prioritize greenery and active transportation, leaving only a tiny sliver for the personal car.
Shade takes time. Think ahead.
How do we get more “good” drivers to see the incredible risk that is American streets? You can do all the right things, and have a modern vehicle with safety equipment, and you might as well just be standing in the middle of an interstate.
The auto industry has zero right to be building and selling vehicles to the general public that are capable of triple digit speeds.
Without pedestrian delays on SS, 2.5 mins probably lets you walk almost the entirety of the core biz area. Once Sendiks is done, you’ll cross as many as three lights, probably all with delays reaching as much as a minute. That’s a bonkers punishment for the people actually spending money here.
think about how quiet this must be
WFB hard at work making sure people can’t have fun outside, in a park. It will cost almost $20k and require a CSO to add this to their regular route. Meanwhile, there’s a state highway adjacent where parents begged for calming for school crossings and they were denied. www.tmj4.com/news/milwauk...
Maybe in another 50 years we’ll have this, but for driving cars next to a school.
Some really interesting responses here. The winding paths that lead us all here are so fascinating and also hold clues of how we can reach and help other kids who want to, or have to bike/walk/roll/bus.
Some specific data from the traffic safety cameras report that goes before the City Council tomorrow:
Parents in my area highlight the inherent selfishness of car culture:
I care about the safety of *my kids*, but I won't support anything that would slow me down while driving to school
I care about the safety of *my kids*, which is why I drive a giant SUV that's a hazard to anyone outside the car
Parked and moving bikes, busy shopping street with old brick buildings, church spire in the background
These bike&ped-oriented shopping areas in central Utrecht are supremely convenient

Did you have a formative experience as a younger person that (in retrospect) really shifted your view as a grown up kid now? Perhaps it was a person, or event that later turned into a bonfire of joy for biking, and the desire for safer streets, etc., now?

Last night a Waymo vehicle froze on an Austin street after a mass shooting, delaying emergency response.
Note to regulators: Crashing is only one of the ways AVs can harm people.
Fossil fuel giant wins $370 million tax break for burning gas as an ‘alternative fuel’ The IRS ruling appears to allow one of the world’s largest exporters of natural gas to claim its heavily polluting tankers are low-emissions “motorboats.”
I cannot ever stop tearing my hair out about climate activists being labelled 'unrealistic' when the fossil fuel business bros persistently do shit like this

The kid saw his friend shoveling across the street and decided to help, which turned into the two of them deciding to shovel the entire block and somehow both returning with $10 cash from appreciative (?) neighbors
Imagine what it would be like if it were this instead!
This is what our leaders think is not worth thinking about that much. We build compromised infrastructure to accommodate typical traffic and completely neglect the reckless drivers. Driver goes over the curb like it wasn’t even there.
Hard to do when 200 kids arrive for school.
For 100 years 😭
WFB: Don’t use too much salt! Sweep up the leftover to use next snowfall! One tablespoon covers an entire sidewalk!
Also WFB:
Wisconsin is nearly alone in not treating first-offense drunken driving as a crime. #factbriefs
Fire departments be like 'single stair? ope no can do'
With THIS in your neighborhood
People love having a park that they don’t have to purchase but can use for free!
