AAUP-OSU Statement on the Selection of Provost Ravi Bellamkonda as Permanent OSU President We are surprised and disappointed at the Board of Trustees’ decision to choose a new permanent university president without even consulting faculty, staff, and students. Ohio State’s system of shared governance - not to mention best practices in hiring university presidents - requires all of us having a say in the process. This hasty, undemocratic process starts this presidency on the wrong footing and sends the wrong message about our supposed shared values.
The speed and secretiveness of this selection follows a troubling pattern of institutional entitlement. The last few years at Ohio State under Ted Carter have been characterized by mass arrests, a chilling of free speech, allegations of covering up abuse, and now corruption. Why risk more public mistrust when OSU is already constantly in the news for the wrong reasons and there has been so much reputational harm? Now is the time to be more careful with decision-making and more accountable, not less.
In just the past two days, over 700 people–faculty, staff, students, alumni, as well as community members–signed our petition calling for a presidential search committee that reflects the democratic structure of the University Senate. That demand to be heard still stands. Going forward, we will continue to work to make sure that OSU faculty and others actually have a voice.
This rushed process has given us no time to consider or discuss the merits of Provost Bellamkonda’s elevation to the presidency, but we wish him well and hope for a successful presidency. If the new president wants to win the trust of the community, he should take immediate action to show that he represents a new era - repeal Ted Carter’s anti-free speech policies, listen to abuse survivors, and commit to greater transparency and authentic shared governance going forward.
And just like that, a new permanent OSU president!
Please read & circulate our statement.
We will continue to be active in creating space for the voices of faculty & the university community. We invite all faculty to join the chapter & all who want transparency & inclusion to work with us.

Screenshot of social media post by World Stage that reads: New name, same vision. Welcome to The World Stage.
Graphic that includes text reading: WORLD CAFE LIVE EST. 2004 IS NOW WORLD STAGE
Graphic with text reading: We are entering an exciting new era. In Philadelphia's 250th Year* we are all on the World Stage: March Madness, FIFA, PGA Tour, MLB All Star & more. We have decided to fully embrace this notion and will continue to bring the world to Philadelphia & our stage for 2026 & beyond. (*Philadelphia was founded in 1682 and turns 344 in 2026; the city was incorporated in 1701, so even using that date, this is off by 75 years.)
And then the venue announces it is now known as World Stage. But they do it in a way that completely tracks with ownership's incompetence and ignorance by declaring it is Philadelphia's 250th year. In fact, Philly — founded in 1682 — turns 344 this year.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Big day for World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. First, the news breaks it has filed for bankruptcy...

Oddly, I am at least aware of every show on this list, but the only one I watch is "High Potential."
that twitter billionaire's dumbass grok image proposing oil transfer by land through what looks like oman and uae, both currently in range of iranian drones and missiles. the trucks have been replaced by a giant slip n' slide running between the ships and a caption that reads "Pour Oil into Giant Slip n' Slide"
Can this be a solution?

Light rain changing to snow. With above freezing temps, only a slushy coating on grass, elevated objects in heaviest.

Aaron Nola’s fastball velocity has been up all spring. Last night was a continuation of that.
Iran literally hit an oil facility in Oman yesterday that is way south of this "pickup point," so this should work out well. 🤦♂️
Did you hear the Lakers' in-game announcement? It was like Kobe died all over again. Referred to Adebayo's performance as a "melancholy footnote." WTF?

I love the idea that *this* US government, which has been nabbing landscapers and five year olds knows where Iranian sleeper cells are but just hasn’t gotten around to doing anything about it yet.
Of course, this comes after having BLOWN OFF Ukraine's pitch to give the US the drone techniques the US is no badly needing.
So: Ukraine had the most important cards, but Trump didn't want them. European allies were there to bail US out in emergency.
Next up, Danes?

Oil is up 7.6% just since the markets closed at 6:00pm eastern, which is around the time Iran blew up the oil tankers.
Seems that Iran is indeed trying to send a message, and it’s being heard.
