I haven't seen a good explanation for this but have heard comments like "something is odd about this"
In July 2025 everyone should have known that the world did not need more US LNG capacity. And that VG already had too much debt. I agree something is odd.

Venture Global announces FID and $15.1bn financing for CP2 LNG
Venture Global has announced an FID and closure of $15.1bn project financing for the CP2 LNG (CP2) project.
I would say that either the bankers don't understand the market or something else was at play here.
"The transaction attracted significant interest from the worldβs leading banks, resulting in commitments exceeding $34bn, and did not necessitate any external equity investment."

Venture Globalβs CP2 LNG plant costs increase by $4 billion | BOE Report
The anticipated construction cost for two phases of Venture Global's CP2 LNG liquified natural gas project has jumped by $4 billion, or just under 14%, the company said in an annual report released ea...
Venture Global has suckered investors into buying their stock because they say they use a new construction approach that lowers construction costs. If they were telling the truth, this is even worse news for the industry than if they were not. Not good for industry either way. Have a nice weekend.

Who is standing in the way of producing more hydrocarbons? Someone should ask Wright about this graph.
Trump and Wright are in charge. Why is fracked oil production going down?
Because they are running out of it.

Pakistan to cancel 45 LNG cargoes in 2026β27
ISLAMABADΒ -Β Pakistan is set to cancel the purchase of 45 LNG cargoes over the next two years (2026β2027) due to a decline in RLNG consumption
Yes. They've cancelled some. Trying to resell others. They have no storage. Their gas system was full and couldn't take more imports because demand was down so much and the system was risking over pressure.

Indeed. I've been writing about that for quite a while. But what the media never accurately reports is that commodities traders broke contracts with Pakistan to sell LNG to Europe for more money. And then the people and industry is Pakistan fought back with solar.

U.S. war on Iran plunges gas markets into chaos - Gas Outlook
About a fifth of the global LNG trade is at a standstill with the Strait of Hormuz blocked due to the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
The important point from @sebkennedy.bsky.social
βThe idea that you can cost-effectively decarbonise your economies by relying on a commodity that, in the space of 5 years, is subject to two illegal wars that send prices stratospheric, it just doesnβt make any senseβ
Solar makes sense.

Sempra Axes Vista Pacifico LNG Plan, Cutting Mexicoβs Proposed Export Capacity
Sempra Axes Vista Pacifico LNG Plan, cutting Mexico's proposed export capacity by 0.5 Bcf/d. Learn more about the termination of the development agreement and its impact on Mexico's LNG export buildou...
Congratulations to Sempra for being able to do simple math!
"Mexicoβs potential LNG export buildout has shrunk by about 0.5 Bcf/d after Sempra ended development plans for its long-proposed Vista Pacifico project."
There is no market demand for these projects. And not enough future supply gas.

"When it comes to the long-term economics of power generation, it isnβt a fair fight. There is no clear way natural gas can compete with renewables on an economic basis in the coming decades."
