I think Trump/Hegseth/Miller want an attack on US soil to justify using a nuke against Iran to deal with their feelings of inadequacy. I think Trump wants a part of his legacy to be a president who used a nuke. Unwittingly demonstrating that he doesn't understand the idea of strategic deterrence.
