Okay, now I see the problem. Claude's internal "thoughts" tries to figure out what to do, but it seems like Claude enters a loop (?) so that those internal thoughts become too big. That causes the internal API to emit a weird error out which makes no sense to you.
I just asked Claude to say just yes or no to a very basic inductive reasoning step and I got the "Claude's response exceeded the 32000 output token maximum." again.
Also, it has burned like 50k tokens trying to answer, and for some reason the usage dashboard says I have at 0% usage. wth
I can't really say anything specific about the logic because that'll spoil the problem, and the contest is in a couple of weeks. But this is certainly going into a blog post later on.

It feels like I have made an impossible problem for the LLMs. And it feels like the LLMs are gaslighting me into thinking I've specified the problem statement poorly. It is honestly exhausting to hear from reasoning models that basic logic statements are false.

Like, even nudging them in the right direction is hard because they can't even grasp simple logical statements about the problem. Feels like I am back in 2023 when it comes to the model quality really.
All because the problem isn't documented anywhere online. But again, it's a pretty easy problem!
