Was about to post the same thing. My favorite quote βThe algorithm doesnβt care what you complain about. It cares what you watch.β He hits the nail on the head with this oneβ¦ Iβll see myself out.
Pantone FTW π. Also might not be the color of the pigment could be translucencyβ¦ or bothβ¦
Ah yeah Iβve had good luck with printing pad masks for larger pads but for tiny ones like this - the only thing Iβve gotten to work somewhat reliably is applying the solder mask to the whole board and then using a mask removal bit to carve it away. Took a lot fine tuning but came out ok.
Iβm using a regular βopalβ colored UV solder mask - pressed as thin as possible between a flat acrylic block and a layer of acetate before curing - and yeah youβll notice the board design is a bitβ¦ creative to ensure this one is just one-sided so I didnβt have to deal with via rivets.
One other thought - is the plastic brittle? Or was it just seriously beat up? If itβs brittle Iβd say itβs probably not worth trying to weld or bond it back together. If itβs not then itβs a totally valid direction to take and would ultimately be less work.
Oh noooo! Is the CRT still firmly mounted to the rear case? Good news is that the front is really just cosmetic so you donβt have to worry about using structural plastics if you do decide to redo it.
Modeling that front face would be a not-insignificant but totally worthwhile project. π€
CNCing my own PCBs in hard mode. Technically functional but emotionally concerning. Send help.
Just submitted a talk. Would be a ton of fun!

Totally this. Too much acetone can make a larger area warp, remove texture, etc. repair looks great!
Thanks for the share! And yeah def post pics. Iβm also curious to know how brittle it is. If itβs not there are a few good options.
Interesting. You let riffraff like me into these things?
THE HALIKAN LIVES

The Chaplet Halikan LA-30 is an interesting 80s laptop on its own but this one busting into 1000 pieces & being restored by PolyMatt takes it to another level. Let's dive into using the PC itself, its odd quirks, and its small but fascinating spot in history!

Thatβs actually hilarious. Now, if itβs real and not a funny joke from the developers, itβs still hilarious but in a laughing-at-you way and not a laughing-with-you wayβ¦
Had a blast chatting with Joe, Javier and Ron on Retro Repair Roundup! Thanks so much for having me on guys!

Same experience. Itβs an 80s term but it was definitely used in the industry. But it actually WASNβT limited to 3.5β inch formatβ¦

Such an amazing product from yyzkevin.com. Canβt wait to try it on my ThinkPad 701C collection. If youβve got a beloved vintage laptop this thing is a Swiss Army knife of gloriousnessβ¦

And while itβs tempting to change things up, Iβve decided to stay the course and keep my release schedule and cadence and focus on making the videos even better β and there are some awesome videos to come!
Well everyone itβs been an EPIC year. Iβve released 4 long form videos, got written up in PC Gamer, Engadget, techradar, hackaday, broke 100k subscribers and had over 36 years of watch time from 1.8 million views.
And itβs all thanks to you. Iβm incredibly grateful for your support. π

That is absolutely something I want to doβ¦
Another awesome restoration from @iiidiy.bsky.social. Still one of the most underrated channels!
Doing a new (additional) format and hoping to release short, unstructured videos about interesting things that come up in my projects or research. Would love feedback!
