Labour must cease taking progressive voters for granted, says Sadiq Khan London mayor criticises PM for calling Greens ‘extreme’ after Gorton and Denton loss, saying it is a ‘flawed strategy’ * Sadiq Khan: ‘Labour must stop channelling Reform and unite with progressives. That’s the byelection’s lesson’ The mayor of London has said the Gorton and Denton byelection has exposed a “far-reaching change and fracturing” in UK politics and Labour must ditch its “flawed strategy” of taking liberal progressives for granted. In what appears to be an attack on Keir Starmer, Sadiq Khan challenged the prime minister’s branding of the Green party and its policies as “extreme”, saying many of its supporters shared Labour’s values but were disappointed in the government. Hope Beats Hate: Green Party Defeats Reform and Labour in Huge Gorton and Denton By-Election Victory A concerted political and media campaign to scare voters about a “Green Menace” winning this by-election failed, reports Adam Bienkov

Gorton and Denton was 127th on the list of Green Party target seats.

To win by such a margin there suggests there is much bigger potential for Green gains in May's local elections than most people expect

What a result!! Huge congratulations to the amazing Hannah Spencer - everyone in Gorton and Denton has just made history. This result shows @greenparty.org.uk can win anywhere, that the politics of hope can win over the politics of hate & there is no longer any such thing as a Labour safe seat 💚

not surprising but this is a particularly dismissive of the role of council workers.

they aren't blocking, they're trying to help. if you cut council services people notice and people get rightly angry - a council worker being hesitant to do this is justified!

the people that want to see motor traffic on this bridge again simply need to accept that it's never going to happen.

it's too expensive and it's quite a nice bridge for pedestrians and cyclists solely.

with the caveat that there needs to be an option for people with mobility difficulties.

Rob Reiner made some great movies but he was also unafraid to speak the truth, and was one of the public voices who knew you don’t squander your platform, and only got louder about opposing evil fucks as he got older. Legend.

'Carspreading’ is on the rise - not everyone is happy In the UK and across Europe, cars are becoming longer, wider and heavier.

won't be a surprise to anyone with eyes but the lack of political appetite to do anything to address the increasing size of cars on uk roads is quite baffling www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

a particularly vile aspect of this budget.

motability gets put in the crosshairs by bad faith right-wingers and the government doesn't even attempt to defend it, just deferral to cruelty.

Misleading and nasty in equal measure.

The clever thing about going for stuff like the cycle for work scheme is it’s really noticeable, affects people with lots of media access and platforms, annoys green groups, and raises almost no revenue at the same time. Real win/win/win there.

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro says 'I'd rather die' than use generative AI Del Toro's new Frankenstein adaption reimagines Mary Shelley's 1818 Gothic novel. Frankenstein was like a tech bro: "creating something without considering the consequences," he explains.

“I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I'm 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak. ... The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, ‘What is your stance on AI?’ And my answer was very short. I said, ‘I'd rather die.’” 🫡
